Hiya Grocery challengers.:D
Can anyone help, I've just discovered that my staple purchase of 1 kg bag of smartprice long grain rice has just gone up from 43p to 95p  Overnight doubling. This is going to hit my challenge quite hard.
Tesco value range has done the exact same thing,
2 weeks ago morrisons still had 1kg rice for 43p in their value range. Can anyone who's been there recently remember if that's still the case? It'll be a disappointing false economy for us to go all the way there if they've hoiked their price up too
Thanks for any advice anyone can offer!

Hi Weezl, my local Morrison's had their rice for 43p today.

Hi Annelouise,
I find that ginger keeps well in the freezer and I just grate it frozen into the pan when needed.

Just had a grand old day trip with my neighbours whilst everyone was at school.
Found three new beaches for us all to enjoy in the Summer, had a couple of coffees and light lunch but that is out of my "me" budget.
Said friends have just popped in with yesterdays roast chuck and I've stripped it down for 2 portions of corrie chicken for DD8 & DD9 lunch tomorrow,Chicken and Lentil Soup and 1 pint of great chicken stock for the freezer.
Kids had a value cannelloni and it was really poor - had it with potatoes and corn, just as well I made apple crumble and custard......They are now in the pool whilst I wait for foodstuffs to cool and wriggle a space in the freezer or my neighbours- shes good!!
No more foodstuffs needed so may come in 23euros under budget unless butter, flour, pasta or uht milk are a bargain between now and then.

Hi All
Have been trying to catch up with this thread as have been lead astray by In Search of Me's no spend challange. As a consequence of this am pleased to anounce that I have managed to come in under budget by.......5p
Worringly am really proud of this. So my declared spend for May is £79.95 :T
Am not sure what my budget will be for June as am toying with a personal challenge based on MrsThriftys wartime challenge. Whereby I try to manage on wartime rations but with a modern twist (utalising some of weezel74 great ideas). Using old and contempory recipes and veggies that might not have been available in wartime but could be grown at home if seeds available ie buttenut squash, sweet potatoes, peppers ect.
Sorry for waffle of to catch up on thread nowMortgage Owed: Sept 14 - £107398.200 -
Just catching up on todays posts. Going to declare £291.45 (Thanks Mrs McCawber) so under my £300 budget. June going back to £250 which will be tough because I have already spent £49.47:eek: . Half in a takeaway yesterday that I may be able to declare as expenses. Normally I woyuld have waited until Saturday for any real spends so not very happy with myself.
I have stopped meal planning and list making, not so much baking either need to get back into the swing of things.
Well done to all who hit this months target and nevermind to those who didnt as we always say you will have spent less than you would have without it!:j0 -
Hi everyone - have just spent an hour and a half catching up on this thread - have been out most of the weekend so couldn't keep up each day. I have now added up my totals and am delcaring at £393.92 for May which is just £6.08 under budget. My new month starts on Thursday (29th) and I am going to try and last out until 3rd July as we are away for two weekends. Mrs M put me down for £325 for June please.
I have just checked out the wine cupboard and we have 17 bottles left of the 24 I bought in a special offer - two of these we have given away - so we have drunk 5 bottles this month (just me and OH). It doesn't sound much especially as they worked out under £4 a bottle, but at this rate they won't last as long as I hoped! I must try harder to cut back - the trouble is once it's opened it's hard not to finish it off - and I don't have any other vices honest!
Have just sent an order to MrS via MySupermarket (for Thursday delivery) so have the loo rolls and stuff covered for next month. Hope I can stick to my budget which will average out at about £45 per week for fresh food. The trouble is that we are trying to lose weight and so relatively 'cheap' meals such as pasta can't be used as much. Mind you it's so cold here today that I can't face salad for lunch tomorrow and have just had a pot of soup bubbling away in my slo cooker. That means bread to go with it , so no low carbs for me ! Oh well we keep trying.
Welcome to all the newbies who have joined - it's very addictive, so be careful! Good luck eveyone for the new month.

Thinking of you before your op ,you'll speak to the dietician pre or post op and will need to modify your diet drastically this may be a challenge.I was a surgical staff nurse on a ward specializing in your op's until recently.
Sending you the very best wishes,a top tip is to take in lots of old pants (comfy ones you'd happily throw away) ,your best favourite perfume and a pack of baby wipes and a positive attitude.
