Just catching up on the thread, been at the craft fair for past 3 days. Surprised we lasted, the marquee was rubbish and nearly blew away, it was freezing. We didn't sell much compared to other years, we have been going for 7 years now.

Managed 3 NSD, after all the encouragement on MSE, I had baked biscuits and cakes to take with us, we had meals in the the freezer to defrost ready for T, even the kids stayed away from the refreshments. Although we took less money on sales, we spent less too. So, THANKS to everyone on here for ideas etc, it makes a difference. :T :T

    Evening all,

So even if DH spends £3.50 on his lunch tomorrow (which he might do - given that I'm up at 4:30 tomorrow to catch my flight  am going to box up my breakfast and coffee rather than fork out airport prices ;)) and even if I don't count the £17 that my sister-in-law kicked in towards our groceries for hosting her and her DH this weekend, we are pretty much spot on for this month :j

Mrs M - Please put me/us down for £200 for June to end on 30 June (5 week month) - I'll be away twice, DH is away for work one w/e, though just for fun I'm going to count any groceries I buy in the US over the next week and a half. Thanks Mrs M and to all for the fun and support!

'see' you later - good luck and wishes to all!

that's one heck of a price jump isn't it? can see all the Indian restaurants whacking their prices up!!

I saw an item on the news about this. Some Indian restuarants were taking some things off the menu, rather than pass on the price increase to customers. Not rice, obviously, maybe it was spices? I cant remember!

Weezil - do you have a Chinese or Indian supermarket nearby? I've been trying to find prices but cant. Sorry!

    Rice rationing starts in America!

    Hi there the_Cat

No problem..its my 1st attempt so im keeping everything crossed ;) . I ador them but you are right they get so expensive..i got a couple of bags whoopsed -hence the trying to grow them:p ..they reckon you average 2 or 3 potatoes from each slip and you can get lots of slips off one potato:T

I read how to do it..but have just found a site with a much more straight forward explanation than i got  and it has reassured me as the 4 that i have put outside were getting floppy leaves..but now i know that is normal :T

    http://organic-vegetable-gardens.suite101.com/article.cfm/growing_sweet_potatoes

I will add some bits i read about that i haven't noticed on there ... you are best off scrubbing the sweet potato with a nail brush as most are sprayed now to stop them sprutting..

I got one of those plastic trays carrots come in and half filled it with compost with a bit of gravel in, pushed the potato down into it... so it was just sat in it...
they reckon that they like heat from under neath..luckily i have those radiators that are about 2" wide so a narrow tray sity on it (i reckon they should still grow even if you sit them in a warm window they will just take longer
keep the compost just slightly damp... after a few days if you lift it you will see it is starting to grow roots and then little tiny pink buds will start to appear and away you go :T ...tomorrow i will post a piccie of how they look once they start to sprout..
I am growing mine in tubs as they are really invasive and a pain to get rid of once they get hold
let me know if you need any more info as i have probably rambled and confused you :p

    Hi everybody,
You prob won't remember me, I signed up for the Grocery challenge at the start of the year, did really badly for the first few months and haven't been heard from since!! In my defense, it's been horrible the last few months, a close relative (19 yo) was in a car accident in March, needed brain surgery and is still unable to move or communicate with us apart from using his eyes to indicate yes or no. It's really sad, we have all split visiting into shifts at hospital and just trying to keep going is hard, in the end my household has been surviving on take aways and last minute shopping at local (overpriced) supermarket. Aaaaaanyway, my finances can't take any more, so could I please, please, please join in the June challenge? Will only be able to post every few days, but at least it might help me stick roughly to budget  . Sorry for the depressing message, just wanted to explain myself really.
