It may be because the recipe says CONDENSED milk, not evaporated:rotfl:

Edit: I made them the other night and they are scrummy!
Oh I see is there a difference? OBVIOUSLY:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: so now what do I do with the evaporated milk?:D Do you know that was because I was trying to save money and the Mr s WAS cheaper than the condensed milk so I plumped for that knowing I would only use for that one recipe and now I made a mistake:rotfl: :rotfl: and saved none by buying the wrong thing, ruining a recipe and having nearly a whole tin of evaporated milk sitting on the side not knowing what do with it:rotfl: :rotfl:

I dont actually know what the difference is, but yes there is a difference. Condensed milk is really sweet(i have been known to eat it with a spoon out the tin:o ) And i dont know what evaporated milk is other than MIL likes it in her coffee:confused:

    The birthday cake is ..

    9oz sfr flour
    1tsp baking powder
    8oz caster sugar
    8oz butter
    4 large eggs
    1tsp milk
Mix in electri mixer for a few mins
    gas mark 4 45-55 mins

For a choc one omit 1oz of flour for 1oz cocoa, orange stir in zest, vanilla add 2 tsp of vanilla extra, coconut add 1oz dessicated coconut

What size tin did you use or was it 2 tins? bit like a sponge with something in middle? Can't tell from photos but it looks delicious it is my DD 10th at the end of June and this would be perfect.
    Thanks

Just wondered what the texture is like after they have been frozen

Soggy! I did that with some carrots recently and cooked them last night. Pretty yuck tbh! The rest have gone back in the freezer with some offcuts from some cabbage, and other peelings etc so I can at some stage make some stock.

I seem to remember the recipe called for condensed milk...........sorry

you can put the milk in fridge till cold then whisk till creamy and then mix into a cooled jelly mix (i use orange) then sprinkle in crumbled flake chocolate

I use evaporated milk to make icecream. Chill the tin of evap for a few hours, then whip it untill it thickens (it takes a while but does get quite thick), add icing sugar and vanila essence to taste, then flavour with whatever you fancy. Freeze for a couple hours, then give it a mix, then just leave untill required.

  • I use evap milk in more or less anything that needs milk. Great in custard or rice pudding to make it really creamy! Or-you can just take it back and get a refund? Tell them you bought the wrong sort?
