did your cake rise , mine was a bit like a flying saucer:D did the soya flour help?
Hi Ive not tried the soya flour yet but I had no problem with the cake rising. I tend to put rather generous helpings of baking powder and bicarb in though-always have done! Only problem I had was the cracking on the top. Im gonna get this perfect though asap as I really want to crack this(eggskuse the pun re egg-less).
Just making cottage pie for later as I had a lot of spuds to use up.
    500g of very lean mince
    150g of soya(dried and rehydrated)
    1 teacup of oats
    2 beef stockcubes(tesco value)
    1 tin chopped toms
    1 tin baked beans
a very large splash of lea and perrins
    3 small onions.

Works out at approx £3.20 and will serve 8 40p per serving

Im not having any! Its salads for me!

Hello :) Not checked in for a while so thought I'd better tot up my receipts - so far spent £107.85 out of my £120 :o I did splash out on BBQ and picnic food to make the most of the lovely weekend we just had however.

I do get paid on the 15th of each month, but am doing the GC from 1st - 1st more or less.

This evening I thought I might post up a list of everything in my fridge, freezer and cupboards and get some recipe suggestions if anyone would be willing to look at it for me?
I have a load of bills I need to pay so still aim to come in as on budget as I possibly can this month and use up everything I have left. It will also give me a good opportunity to re-stock and (hopefully!) actually meal plan a bit next month.
Proud to be a moneysaver :)

    Hi all,

My frind likes vital (lambertz) biscuits. They are with sunflour seeds and raisins.
Can maybe anyone of you sugget a recipe for something similar, as they are very expensive.

Just made a batch of HOBNOBS, they are really really nice.

    Egon

For anyone who missed the programme about cheap food here is a link where you can watch it again

    http://www.itv.com/CatchUp/Video/default.html?ViewType=5&Filter=19303

I found it would be helpful to beginners but not enough detail

What worries me is that if you are already living quite a frugal life its almost impossible to cut back more if your quite wasteful then you can

So as usual the poor get poorer..........................

Hi everyone - not been logged on for a while and struggling to catch up with all the threads so Hugs to those who need them. Reason I've not had time to log on is that I've been cooking for the Freezer most days as need to stock it up as I'm away for 4 days from Friday the 23rd, doing a wlaking Pilgrimage from St. Martin in the Fields Church, Charing Cross to Canterbury and as my OH can't cook, won't cook, I have stocked the freezer with meals that can be defrosted and reheated. Got a large Shepherds Pie, some Chilli for DD1, fishcakes, Spag Bol mix, cheese muffins and Bakewell tarts so hoping no-one starves.:D

Also been busy in the garden, earthing up the spuds in an old bin that I had, up to the top now and also got some in the ground that need earthed up again this afternoon. Cucumbers, lettuces, tomatoes, beetroot etc all coming along nicely too - the weather has been great so everything growing like mad. Also put some strawberries into hanging baskets and they have flowers on them already.:j

Have updated my total, OMG:eek: it's looking close this month, think it's all the Salad stuff that we buy at this time of year, have meal planned up to the end of my month which is 27th so hoping that while I'm away OH, DD1 & DD2 don't bust my budget.

Been to Asda this morning and 18 Free Range eggs still only £2, Plain Flour rolled back to 36p and in Sainsbury's picked up Seriously Strong Cheese as still BOGOF. Off to have some lunch now and then out in the Garden to earth up spuds.
    "WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"
GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

We're having a delivery today from Ocado (Waitrose) and when I placed the order through MySupermarket it said that the total was cheaper than Mr T, which I normally order from. I was a bit surprised to say the least as Mr W is the most expensive grocer on the planet, with the exception of maybe, Harrods. I suppose that when Mr W says that they match Mr T's prices for branded goods, they then compare their special offers with the equivalent branded item from Mr T. Really that doesn't seem the proper thing to do, What do you think? Does anyone know what the details of Mr W's price/comparison policy is?

    Will update siggy ASAP.

    Love the FM

I used to do buffets for a living and always tried to do new and unusual fancy food unfortunately people want/expect traditional buffets
    This was mine:

    Assorted filled sandwiches(Meat and vegetarian)
    Cheese and onion rolls
    Spanish quiche
Ploughman’s platter: selection of pork pie, scotch eggs, cocktail sausages and assorted pickles
    Potato crisps/tortillas
    finger cakes

You could make the quiche if you wanted but everthing is available at Asda(for this sort of stuff i found cash and carry more expensive) i use their lasts a week medium bread you get enough sarnies for 5 people per loaf and its square which helps when making triangles!!
egg tuna ham best in triangles
packs of 9 small rolls ideal for open sarnies with cheese or pate
frozen cheese and onion rolls usually on a multibuy
the ploughmans i used to put on a big oval plate with a couple of dishes of mini gherkins and pickled onions on buy smartprice packs of 4 pork pies and mini eggs and the huge packs of cooked sausages
they also sell nice looking waffle crisps in big bags but use whats on offer for cakes in the bakery section they sell brownie bites coconut pyramids flapjacks etc you could easily make something similair or do loads of mini muffins in different flavours steer clear of whole cakes that need cutting and require extra bowls and spoons (bowls cost more than plates)

thank you so much for taking the time to give me all these suggestions, shaz. i've copied & pasted them so i can refer to them nearer the time. you've given me a load of ideas to go on with :D

well i was all set for a minimal spend day...had only planned on buying milk, toothpaste and some veg, but when i got the casserole dish out of the cupboard to prepare tonights tea, i dropped the blasted thing  flippin shards of glass everywhere. good job i read all the tips on this forum, cos i knew to pick up all the tiny slivers with a slice of bread.....only thing is, i never have bread in the house, but i'd just taken a batch of HM rolls out of the oven, so i had to use one of them :rotfl: don't know why i'm laughing, i wasn't very happy  then i had to run round to Wilkinsons and buy another casserole dish....ho hum:rolleyes:

anyway, just gonna update my siggy and grab myself a cuppa x

Just spent £22 in Aldi with all their 6 for 49/59p and £28 in Sainsburys they are closing for refurb so loads and loads of sale prices and I must have got the lot:D

Got dessicated coconut but now have lost the recipe to use it with:rolleyes: , Aldi had kiwi and avocado obviously can eat them as they are but are there are fab recipes for those?
With what I have just spent that makes £189, shall I add the energy light bulbs? the factor 50 sun tan lotion, hair products? Oh well that is another £11 so £199 total call it £200 for cash:D £150 to go so not bad still, wnated to get some BBQ stuff but too expensive so never did.
