mmm, making twinks hobnobs:D I went through my recipes from t'internet yesterday(i have a big folder of ones i've printed off). Found a recipe for oat cookies and thought i'd make them as i hadnt had them for a while. Lo and behold its exactly the same recipe as twinks just half the portion size. I've been making twinks hobnobs for years and not realised:rotfl:
Also found loads of recipes i've not used for ages, so they will be going on the meal planner for a bit of variety:DThe trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -

DD17 turns 18 at the beginning of July, and she's just told me she wants a party
i can get a room booked quite cheap, but i want to cater for the food myself. she said there's gonna be between 50-70 people there, so any "cheap and cheerful" ideas for food will be most welcome! i thought if i started planning what i can make/bake now, it'll make things easier  so hit me with your ideas peeps
I used to do buffets for a living and always tried to do new and unusual fancy food unfortunately people want/expect traditional buffets
This was mine:
Assorted filled sandwiches(Meat and vegetarian)
Cheese and onion rolls
Spanish quiche
Ploughman’s platter: selection of pork pie, scotch eggs, cocktail sausages and assorted pickles
Potato crisps/tortillas
finger cakes
You could make the quiche if you wanted but everthing is available at Asda(for this sort of stuff i found cash and carry more expensive) i use their lasts a week medium bread you get enough sarnies for 5 people per loaf and its square which helps when making triangles!!
egg tuna ham best in triangles
packs of 9 small rolls ideal for open sarnies with cheese or pate
frozen cheese and onion rolls usually on a multibuy
the ploughmans i used to put on a big oval plate with a couple of dishes of mini gherkins and pickled onions on buy smartprice packs of 4 pork pies and mini eggs and the huge packs of cooked sausages
they also sell nice looking waffle crisps in big bags but use whats on offer for cakes in the bakery section they sell brownie bites coconut pyramids flapjacks etc you could easily make something similair or do loads of mini muffins in different flavours steer clear of whole cakes that need cutting and require extra bowls and spoons (bowls cost more than plates)
also things like Krisprolls(cracker aisle) soread with philly cheese are easy and cheap as is rye bread cut into saures topped with cream cheese and smoked salmon(trimmings) like this :
I would however agree with the person earlier that hot food is much cheaper and can be made in advance it just takes more time at the venue for serving and reheating oviously depends on your venue our butcher makes steak pie for pubs etc(serves 20-24 ) for £15 i have done pie and peas with these too
The bring a dish idea is a good one to but make sure someone coordinates it
Hope this helps

I spent another 60p on yeast ready to make my bread, if only I could find the recipe for a Breville Breadmaster BR88!!. I cant make head nor tail of searching on Google!!.
Sorry this is a late reply, I was a few days behind the thread. Just in case you haven't already found a recipe, Mooloo, here is the 750g white loaf recipe from my Breville Breadmaster booklet (doesn't quote a model number though):
260 ml water
22 g butter
1.5 tsp salt
1 tbsp + 1 tsp sugar
500 g strong plain flour
1 tbsp + 1 tsp milk powder
1.25 tsp dried yeast
Let me know if you need a different recipe or loaf size.0 -
Managed to pop to M&S last night for some vouchers for a wedding present and spent £4 on unnecessary but yummy stuff - a cheese twist, some squash, and 3 bags of sweets (3 for 2 offer).
Naughty but nice - am sharing the sweets at work though so not all bad!
Will update the sig in a min.
Did a bit of a stock take and I think I can manage to get through the next week until my family arrives to visit on Friday 23rd with what I have in and a few bits of fruit etc. Trouble is I have placed a Tesco shop order to be delivered on Saturday and I should really cancel it but I keep thinkng of al lthe yummy stuff in the virtual trolley! I get paid tomorrow so I think I'll wait and see how much I get this month (it varies with bonus and commission) and then decide?
Back to work - NO MORE SKIVING TODAY!!0 -

I'm doing well so far this week, made spicy lentil layer last night and it was gorgeous (although I had a bit of an accident with the paprika and then my potatoes all sunk into the sauce in the oven..but still) so thanks to whoever posted that recipe!
Forgot to take anything out of the freezer last night or soak any beans so I'm having some fishcakes I bought a while ago and bf can have the birdseye chicken thingy. I might make potato wedges to go with it..or I'll do baked pots, whatever I can be bothered with really.
Need to add yesterdays shop on, bought teabags (again), bread and bf bought me some brownies (and I ate them all, ooh my diets going well lol)May Grocery Challenge -£216/4000 -
