thank you so much for taking the time to give me all these suggestions, shaz. i've copied & pasted them so i can refer to them nearer the time. you've given me a load of ideas to go on with :D

well i was all set for a minimal spend day...had only planned on buying milk, toothpaste and some veg, but when i got the casserole dish out of the cupboard to prepare tonights tea, i dropped the blasted thing  flippin shards of glass everywhere. good job i read all the tips on this forum, cos i knew to pick up all the tiny slivers with a slice of bread.....only thing is, i never have bread in the house, but i'd just taken a batch of HM rolls out of the oven, so i had to use one of them :rotfl: don't know why i'm laughing, i wasn't very happy  then i had to run round to Wilkinsons and buy another casserole dish....ho hum:rolleyes:

anyway, just gonna update my siggy and grab myself a cuppa x

Not sure if this is going to be much help, as I cannot remember where the post is, but I know there is a master list on here somewhere for various useful threads - ie: cleaning, buying, shopping, etc, and one of them was for party foods - I know it is there as I only looked at it yesterday, but cannot find it again now... (Really annoying  )

I will have another look and see if i can find it and let you know, but in the mean time, if anyone else knows where it is, can they let me and mandy moo know!
    Thanks

    :j :j :j Whoo Hoo! I've found it!:j :j :j
It is on the indexed section - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=235198 There are loads there, and I think it was under food or recipes or something similar, but it is there and you can check out loads of recipes for parties and stuff there.
    Hope it helps,

Have just updated my sig with the bananas I bought yesterday, but today should be a NSD for me. I have been reading the last four pages of posts and am sorry that my Thanks button is being temperamental! So if you posted in the last four days please consider yourselves thanked!

I am hopeful of being on target this month, but will have to have a really good look at the budget(for everything) as DD1 is off to uni again in September and will need her rent and food covered by us (she saved all the fees herself working) - no student loans available for second degrees. We have DD2 finishing this month, so at least there will only be one to support, but it does mean an all round tightening of belts. Still, we encouraged them to study so we can't grumble really. DH and I were lucky to get grants and support from our employers for all our studies, so I suppose it is payback time.

Just had first sandwhich from freeze and it was a sucess! It was ham and applewood. Banna and peanut butter tmw - hope banana defrosts ok! Really chuffed now I can spend 1/2 an hour on sun/mon doin lunches and not run out of time!
cheese ham and pickle next week I think. Possibly tuna sweetcorn and mayo? Might do a test one first.

I may be wrong, but i seem to recall someone saying that you cant freeze sandwiches with mayo in them, think it separates?

Just popped in to update sig - I spent 1.36 in Mr S near work yesterday on 2 packs of pitta (multi buy) and a youghurt. I have spent 3.44 in greggs on pastys and sausage rolls for lunvh as I can't get in the kitchen - the plasterer is in doing the kitchen ceiling and OH is building kitchen cabinets in the lounge  It will be worth it in the end!

....just watched the ITV programme...didn't really tell me anything I don't already know (well, we all don't already know)....all those ready meals were terrible, can't remember the last time I had one of those!!!

I did wonder though, when Ed Baines was buying the shopping...was he only buying food and was there any treats, as I seemed to have the impression it was just the dinner meal shopping, so possibly not a true reflection of cutting back.

What were other people's opinions on it?

This months budget is bust
Did a huge shop at Asda at start of month and stocked up on things that will last for 2 or 3 months. Technically they should come out of next months money but that would get too confusing, so I'm stuck with having to keep my overspend down. All we actually need is fresh f & v, milk, toghurts, eggs and bread so let's see how little I can last the next 2 weeks on :T

    Wish me luck..................

    Hello,

Not been online for a few day's still recovering after DS's birthday on saturday. Everybody had a really good time a the party and the buffet went down a treat. Everybody made lovely comments about my HM biscuits and Cake's and had to hand out twink's hob-nobs recipe. I made a chocolate cake with a chocolate ganache icing it was yummy. The whole party cost me £35 including the cake and party bags. But i have taken my eye off the ball this weekend with 2 take-aways because i was too tired to cook another thing.
So i am back now with a vengance we had honey and soy sticky chicken wings with stir-fry noodles and beansprouts last night and tonight is jacket potatoes with tuna and salad. Tomorrow is a baking day as i need to replenish my biscuit tin and all the bread has now gone out of the freezer. I am updating my sig now i am really determined to meet my target this month. Oh and before i go i have managed to talk hubby around to cancel sky saving £65 a month we had the full package with multi room a sky + i only watch and i only watch the free view channel and sky one. :j

There was no mention of cleaning stuff and toiletries and loo roll drinks etc

i think it highlighted the benefits of cooking from scratch and wastefulness that was about it

no mention of pack up vs school dinners (i bet they'll go up again soon)or taking lunch to work

can't imagine she would buy value stuff either!! i noticed when he changed the onions he bought a net thing with about 5 in i was shouting at the telly you can get 2kg of value ones for that price ................i am really obsessed can you tell??? LOL

the facts and figures were fascinating about population growth etc but can't help thinking panic buying will kick in soon ...................ooh i do that already(blush)

Hi victory-just put another cake in the oven but have amended the recipe. It is now, as follows:
    Melt in a pan
    3 oz of butter
    1 Tbsp golden syrup

    Mix together
    7 oz plain flour
    1 oz soya flour
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 oz cocoa
    1 1/2tsp baking powder
    3/4 tsp bicarb
    2 oz sugar

6 fl oz warm water to mix

I will let you know how it turns out.

**edit** well it tasted as good as ever but it wasn't as smooth on top. I preffered the previous version(for looks) with 8oz flour-and forget the soya! I will try it with vinegar next time but 3 choc cakes in as many days will have to do for now!**
