Giant Jaffa Cake - what am I doing wrong. I attempted to make this at the weekend, made the jelly, left it on the side for nearly an hour, poured it on the flan case and yes, it soaked straight through!!! Made jelly exactly as packet said to so not sure what happened!?!?!?!?

Sounds like the jelly was not "thick" enough.
I know that you can buy something called "quick gel" which is similar to jelly but its usually used on things like fruit flan. These are not exactly OS but you could try it?

Have you thought about trying to make your own??

You could thicken some orange juice with arrowroot or cornflour.
arrowroot would go clear when heated with the juice. Cornflour would make it slightly cloudy.

Someone asked can you freeze ready made sandwiches and so far there has been no answer but I would be very interested to know because sometimes they sell the really expensive ones for pennies at the end of the day and if they did freeze that would be a huge saving plus lovely sandwiches to look forward to:D it does say on the packets though keep refrigerated, nothing about freezing....

Made the eggless choc cake that weezl made the link to in her post and the kids don't like it, say it is tasteless and needs to be injected with cream or something to make it taste nice, they are certainly not clamouring for it:rolleyes:

Oh heck victory, sorry about that! I was more hoping you could pick up tips about egg substitutes from there!:o

Maybe someone will be along with a way to save it? What about a cocoa and golden syrup and butter based chocolate sauce to drench it in? Might they be tempted then?

Maybe it'd be a good idea to post your feedback onto that thread too, so you can save others from the same fate!

Anyhow, sorry I lead you down a bad route!

ahemm its not just the army;)

Did you see the article in the paper about the yougsters struggling to budget so their CO's are having to bail them out with chits so they can get fed:eek:

Is there any news on the bubs and searching_me yet?

A NSD here for me today, but I am going to have to dig out my recipe books and start planning what to buy to feed my parents when they come down. My dad is adamant that chicken isnt real meat:confused: and as he will only eat meat based meals I can see the bank hols being very expensive.

Might try and smuggle some pasta bolognaise in so I can bulk it out with oats and veg:rotfl:but other than that Im stuck LOL I dont tend to eat an awful lot of meat & two veg meals so I guess if nothing else it will be a change of food for 3 days:o

edited to add, just remembered Ive still got that pork loin in the freezer (the one I bought thinking it was gammon LOL) so thats one more meal sorted
