Have done a few online surveys now thanks to this thread's suggestions that I sign up...and they're not too bad.
I'm now looking at a new company, whose name I shouldn't mention, (not kleeneze!) who are into telecommunications and do it by network marketing also.
It sounds pretty good...any thoughts?Claiming against Nationwide £2500Others to come!0 -
Avon now have Sales Leadership. You become one, recruit people to be reps sales leaders themselves and get a cut on their(and their teams) sales.
Some of the top ones earn 100k+ a year. Plus there's always loads of incentives and freebie holidays for the best performing people.
Done properly in the right area, it really is a ready made career. More suited to blokes as well.
Hours to suit, can't be bad!!0 -
Hi
My wife did Avon for a short while as a representative and the experience was not the best, always mistakes on deliveries, you have to pay for everything and that eats into your profits considerably - such as bags and brochures (I think Avon bags should at least be free). Area management was non-existant, no control over territories and reps just delivering wherever they wanted, so lots of surprises to find other reps delivering to the same doors. We saw no commitment from area managers and beyond them, no one went the extra mile to sort things out, in fact no one did anything.
If you want to put loads of effort in for little reward do Avon... (that is my opinion based on our experince).0 -
It's not for everyone (obviously!! lol), but there is a serious money making opportunity there now with the Sales Leadership scheme.
Some people make SERIOUS money out of it. £1000's every 3 weeks is possible. Obviously you've not going to get that overnight, but it's possible. I think a lot of it depends on building big teams of good people beneath you and beneath them.
I know what you mean though. Horses for courses. You do have to put quite a lot in to make it really worth while.
20% or whatever will love it and do well, the rest maybe not.0 -

Effort was not the issue, it was the terrible support network, lots of not in stock items even though they were in the catalogue, every delivery of orders had at least 2 or 3 things missing etc etc. Even with good support up the chain you still would have Avon themselves to deal with. With regard to effort my wife took on extra territory and found that problems increased two-fold with mistakes by Avon, it came to the point that enough was enough.
I think the way Avon works is deeply flawed, they try to pay too many layers of people from the prices in their catalogues, so those at the bottom make next to nothing in commission (and in fact you can put loads of effort in and deliver to all the usual regulars and a few more besides, not make a threshold amount of sales - I think it was about £70 in sales, if you got less than that you would receive no commission at all - yet lots of effort from the rep - not a good situation to find yourself), the next layer takes a cut and so on. I think anyone interested should maybe do an internet search on the way Avon works... here is an extract from ciao.co.uk reviews...
http://www.ciao.co.uk/Reviews/Avon_representative__5627843
the ramblings above is the view from the bottom (as a rep), those in higher positions maybe do not care about high turn over of reps as long as they can maintain layers below them. Which invariably they can as there are always people willing to give Avon a go.
This post is based on the personal experince of doing this over a year, I helped my wife do this, ciao reviews back up my comments.0 -

BAAAAAD idea. The telecommunications market is so vicious. I got drawn into one of these 'network marketing' schemes. Lost about £200 by the time I'd realised it wasnt worth it.
Steer well clear if I were you.0 -

So, you like Avon then? Fancy being a rep? ;-)
Ciao reviews back up your comments?
Like these you mean?
"I couldn’t believe it – so may people ordered products. My first order was over £250 just from my area. I also gave books to friends and family so all in all my first order was £300."
"it fits in with your lifestyle. I now have two children and I still have plenty of time to fit it all in. I used to put my child in the buggy and off we would go delivering books. Its good exercise and takes very little time."
"I really enjoyed my time as a rep as it made me loads of new friends and some extra much needed money."
"I would definitely recommend being a rep."
"Sales leadership is Avons way of rewarding those who not only sell and serve customers successfully, but recruit, train, coach and help others to do the same. If you are ambitious, like meeting people and want to run your own business then sales leadership is for you."
"Anyway, without too much hard work, I have managed to get enough money over a year to get myself and my husband a two week holiday to Lanzarote. And also I have managed to get myself a bathroom cabinet full of products !!"
Fact is, out of 14 reviews, it averages a respectable 3.5/5 and has 6 5/5's.0 -
I'm not saying it's the best job in the world, with no drawbacks. just presenting a realistic option for a 'bit on the side' to help with money.
You're obviously had problems with them, as others probably have, but some people do earn 100k plus being self employed sales leaders and many more subsidise their income in a flexible way that suits them.
I personally couldn't be bothered with the hassle, but each to their own.
Now a potential £140 a quid a month for some advertising on my car I could handle. Thanks to whoever posted that!! I had a quick look last night when I was reading through and I'm definitely going to think about it. Some of them don't look too bad!!
Surpised more boy racers don't for it for the touring car look. lol.0 -
Caio reviews offer a mixed bag with regard to the reviews... I just think people would be wise to research a little before jumping into Avon. Remember, caio et al will have genuine and false reviews (all review sites have a mixed bag of reviews as they are used by people genuinely and those with a self interest), so it is best to just take the jist of the reviews and look wider than I did. There are more than just positive comments left there, view the negative ones too.
Granted you are right, it does offer money on the side, but it is a frustrating company to work for.0 -
Thanks, Wings...er, already signed up. Guess I could cancel.
Hmm...maybe it's worth a shot though. I like to keep an open mind...Claiming against Nationwide £2500Others to come!0
