I got a leaflet through the post this morning, apparently Royal Mail is looking to hire people for temporary work over the Xmas period, they state that the rates of pay are good (HMMM!).
Doesn't hurt to give it a try I guess!

Sorry if I'm being a bit thick, but I don't understand betting procedures terribly well. You say bet your £50 at short odds and you will lose about £1(what is short odds and do you bet the whole £50 in one go?). From my limited understanding of betting, if you lose your bet you lose all your stake, so how does it work that you only lose a small amount please? Surely you are taking a chance of losing the whole £50?

    Thanks for any help.

Matched betting is quite simple in concept. Essentially it involves betting on both sides of an outcome, for example you bet on Manchester United to win at one bookmaker, and bet on them not to win elsewhere.

The two bets cancel out, i.e. you don't win or lose overall. - if Man U have a 30% chance of winning, they have about a 70% chance of not winning, and the overall odds reflect this. Maybe a better example is a coin toss - there's a 50% chance of heads or tails, so odds would be evens (i.e. you double your money if you win a bet). If you bet on heads and heads comes up, you would make a profit of £1 for a £1 bet; if you had bet on tails you would lose £1. £1 - £1 = 0. And vice versa.

If you do this with your own money, it's pointless, and in fact you would probably lose 10-15% of your stakes because of the way bookmakers set their odds with a margin favourable to them. But if you do it with a free bet, you gain 80-100% of the free bet amount.

There is no risk apart from the risk of making mistakes. Most people who do this - very few of whom have bet before - are terrified on the first bet, then pick it up very quickly. It's really very easy money indeed (one person you could ask is Divadee who strayed onto the gambling board by accident and then stayed - she's made a lot of money).

Typically most people make £500 easily over a few weeks, £1000 with a bit more effort, and above that the sky is the limit (see Donglemouse's diary on the gambling board). Big returns do require a bit more work, but most people find it an absorbing and rewarding pastime.

You don't actually need to understand the maths because there are a set of spreadsheets for doing the sums. But anyone needing or wanting a bit of spare cash should do this - it's absolutely the easiest way of generating free money you will ever find. Probably the best kept secret on this site.
