Hi all... new to this and having difficulty posting so this may or may not have appeared before.
I go round house clearance sales and auctions and buy boxes of " odds" for between £2 and £5 plus 10% commission. I then sell vi athe free ads in the lcoal paper ( under £20o free) or car boot it.
My last box of " enamel ware" for £4 netted :
£10 selling the enamel in the paper,
a few quid with the rest at a car boot ( 20p box)
and £40 from a local antique shop on two very black objects in the bottom of the box which polished up into hallamarked silver ( jug and victorian salt dish).
Auctions are great fun especially out in the more rural aears of the country but can be addictive.. I have become very discsiplined over the years. You do though need a very understanding OH when the garage is full of junk ( in his eyes!)0 -
We have a language school in our local town and have been hosting overseas students for about 8 years now. We currently have 3, one italian, one japanese and one polish who all get on really well. The polish guy is here working before university and has come via a local comapny that we host for.
Income is around £90 per week for room, breakfast and dinner and packed lunches at the weekend if required. Students have their own room and share a bathroom plus have use of the washing machine.
This year we have already earned around £3200 with some more bookings in hand for the autumn
Usual length of stay is 2 to 3 weeks then we have a week off before the next one arrives. Normally we only have one at a time except in the summer when the school is busy. We only take adults as with both working full time we can leave them to get home on their own etc, whereas if we were to accept children a lot more time has to be committed ( which is only right really as that is what you would expect if it was your own child attending a language school overseas).
We find this an easy tax free income and have met lots of new people. All income from this goes as additional capital repayments off our mortgage to reduce the term.0 -

I was prompted to register by this ways of making extra dosh thread - I've recently got involved in a new video email business in the UK (been running very successfully in the US, and Australia, only recently launched over here) where I can earn passive income - okay, I'm in my first month and I'm only earning £1.50 this month but it's going to grow to hundreds, and the great thing for me is I can do it all from my pc, I don't have to go out, it's all legal and it ties in with my existing business, and I've only spent about 6 hours on it so far (which is why I'm only up to £1.50 per month - but that is every month, even if I'm on hols)

Pyramid alert!!!!!
Anything that tries to recruit and explains there is 'passive' or 'residual' income potential is most likely a recruitment pyramid. Avoid like the plague.0 -
When I was doing my Masters in London I found a part-time job as a news analyst for a small investment fund. It basically involved spending 30mins each day distilling financial news stories and writing a 200 word update with some weblinks. Paid about 250/month. Found the job advertised on the LSE student jobs website.
Consumer focus groups are also a pretty good way to make some extra dosh, pays about 65 quid for 1.5 hours in Central London. I've also done some work as an extra in tv series, ads and movies, which though often quite time consuming, pays quite a nice per diem depending on the type of shoot (between 15-40/hour or 150-250/day). There must be websites and agencies out there that match supply and demand, but I've always found out about these things through friends and friends of friends.

Hi
I know you posted the thread a while ago now asking if anyone living in Nottingham would be interested in Market Research Projects. I live in Nottingham and would love to do this. Are you still looking for people? If so can you let me have some more details please. Many thanks and hope to hear from you soon.0 -
I've also worked for Retail Eyes https://www.retaileyes.co.uk before - they have quite a variety of assignments and the work is realtively easy - go to a shop or other business, fill in a questionnaire based on their service.
I usually sign up for the assignments in my area when the service is something that I would use anyway - examples of assignments have included card shops, restaurants, pubs and health clubs (Virgin gym - they reimburse you for 2 months free membership).
Payment is usually a small amount for completign the assignment (£5-10, occassionally more) plus refund of costs for any purchases.0 -
I found that the best way to earn money on the side was to tutor school children in the evenings. I even started a website on it. There are a lot of pages there designed to help new and existing tutors. The site makes money by advertising tutors in the UK. Unfortunately, I have been quite ill recently and haven't been taking on new tutors so you will not be able to advertise on the site but the information is still free:
http://www.aplustutors.co.uk/tutors/
(I wouldn't normally put a link to my own website but I can get away with it this time as I can not make any money from it!)0 -
i know BAI data and Retail Eyes have been mentioned recently on here but have a look on this thread for more Mystery shopping companies to sign up to

ive had most jobs with TNS and BAI so far

Lots of great tips; i've spent the last hour and a half reading them while I could have been earning money!
On advertising with Google and Amazon the one area missed is blogging. Sometimes just rambling about things that are interesting (and generating keywords in the process which are constantly changing) can be a good way of creating a web site that is original, entertaining (and if you have the discipline) constantly refreshed daily.
If you have an interesting job/life then you could make money updating your diary daily..... I read a couple and am hooked. You'd be amazed at what people will read, unless of course you buy certain newspapers and magazines!
Paul.

OGB03 wrote:Hi everyone! I thought I'd try to help others too with more information on Focus Groups. I know it's been mentioned before and some companies are well known in this thread and the referrers thread, but there are some others that are less well known, and hey, this might help a newbie!
If there is anyone out there who lives in Nottingham I am always looking for people to attend focus groups for me
