u can get paid up to £5000 and pay no tax. Up to £7000 and u pay 10% tax. anythin over that is 22% tax.

these figures are all rough figures, you will need to speak to an accountant to make it all legit.

Has anyone tried 82ask as a alternative to AQA? Am looking at the application form for my boyfriend and it looks really difficult - any tips?
And what are they like working for?

  • There are some great ideas on this thread, hopefully i'll try a few of the ebook/self business/gambling ideas (if I can get to grips with the laws of gambling!), see if they generate anything.

Its also really nice to see a few people actually still putting in time and effort, making money through good old fashioned 'labour', such as cooking/creating/working in bars etc. I got one, but I apologise if its been mentioned, as I havet had a chance to trawl through every page on this thread.

A few years ago, I applied to work as a steward in the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff! Its a fantatstic job, the money is really good, and its also local to where I live. Since being there, I have watched major events such as the Tsunami concert, Rolling Stones, Madonna and Take That - The FA Cup finals (many of them) Carling Cup, Wales Grand Slam (I was on the pitch for the parade!) Henieken cup finals and Wales Internationals. I've met the likes of Rod Stewart, Robbie Williams, Ant and Dec, Andy Gray, Mark Hughes, Peter Schmeicel, Gary Linekar, 'Ben' from Hollyoaks and even Sara Cox! Its a fantastic place to work, the people and fans you meet are fantastic and friendly. I work in a team that are very positive towards the job, and are all considered great friends too. I even work with my dad!!!

The point is (I got a bit side tracked there!) that a great way to earn money, whilst making a load of new friends and meeting some very interesting people, as well as watching and enjoying some great live experiences, is to work as a steward at your local football/rugby/concert venue! Fans can get paid for doing what they love, watching their team/band, saving on the price of a ticket AND getting paid to watch the event! Its a win-win situation! Those lucky enough to live in London should really consider working at the new Wembley (in 2008!!) It takes all people, of all ages, sizes, races and sexes, so dont think that anything like physical appearance should hold you back. At the end of the day, you're there for safety and as a point of contact, not to beat up 6 foot drunkards!

I'm a qualified teacher and would appreciate some info if you have it. Is this marking exams etc? I'm doing my NQT year at the minute, would that hold me back? Many thanks

Hi go4it, I did some exam marking last year (when I was in my second year of teaching). The money is good if you've got the time, but I found that I just didn't. I assumed the marking would be during the summer hols, but it was actually from about the second week back after the May halfterm to a fortnight before we broke up for summer, which as you will find out, can be a very unexpectedly busy time.
If you're still interested check out the exam board websites, they normally start recruiting around January/Febuary time.
    Good luck! :j

    Hi,

Does anyone know where I can get information on what work I would need to declare? There are loads of ideas here, and I'm guessing things liked matched betting and survey sites you don't, but other things like mystery shopping and party planning etc I'm a bit confused about.

I know a few people will take the risk of not bothering, but I'm usually the one who gets found out, so I'd prefer to do it by the book. I just don't know what is and isn't allowed.

I'm not claiming any benefits, or working if this makes any difference.

    Thanks,
    K

If you attend market research group discussions (focus groups) then any money you are given as a thank you for attending is tax free. Typically you would receive £30 - £35 for attending a one and a half hour session.

  • Depending on how broadminded you are I know a fantastic way to make extra money, work on a phone chatline I did it for 3 years on and off and all though I had to register as Self-employed, I never paid any tax as at the same time I was temping and so always ended up getting tax back as I was put on emergency tax or hadn't worked enough!! It's easy to get bonuses the top 10 girls got £50 extra a month and I wa always in the top 10! the longer you keep the call going the more yo umake as they work it out on your average, not every call is of an 'adult' nature you do get people that are just bored and fancy a chat! You can earn up to £10 an hour but it's more likely going to be around 7-8 remember to keep some aside for tax, and do it from home whenever you want, when I did it you got paid every 2 weeks and just had to be logged on for a minimum of 10 hours a week.

It's not an ideal job for everyone and for women only, although if you are an openminded man and want to make some money there is always the texting side, which I've also done.

Obviously it depends on the type of person that you are but if you want any more info then please pm me.

I haven't done this type of work for at least 2 years so please don't think this is a referral post!

What does this involve and do you know if it's still available?
