Les pièges des loteries illégales - Le Monde 03.10.06
    http://www.lemonde.fr/web/imprimer_element/0,40-0@2-3238,50-819076,0.html

Or: 'Traps of the illegal lotteries' citing the blacklisting of Promondo by UFC
    Google Translation

= Other companies of mail order trading, domiciled in France, bet on the credulity of the purchasers. “This time, it is quite real. I assure you that you are really gaining it of the bank check. Answer me quickly so that I can organize the handing-over of the cheque in specific hand to your residence”...

Another translated section says: "The recipients of these mails, often of the pensioners, are invited to answer by buying a small object in order to obtain their gift. In the immense majority of the cases, they receive neither the profit announced nor the bought object."

Sound familiar ? And how many more (elderly parents) are going to be caught out by these cretins ?

    Regards,

    Dave.

"It is considered the French newspaper of record, and is generally well respected..."

Whilst the advice to bin incoming notifications of 'winnings' is fine, these scams have gone too far to rely on that advice alone and it needs some concerted action to stop them. Correspondence with my MEP suggests that this is the person to whom representations should be made in the European Commission:

    Commissioner Markos Kyprianou
    DG Health and Consumer Protection
    http://ec.europa.eu/commission_barroso/kyprianou/index_en.htm

There's also this recent press release:

Stopping rogue traders: EU consumer protection cooperation network starts work

A new EU network for co-ordinated action against cross-border scams and rogue traders comes into operation on 29 December 2006. With the EU Internal Market growing in scope and size, and the development of new technologies, there has been a rise in dishonest traders exploiting new opportunities across Europe. Recent examples of cross-border scams include misleading and threatening clairvoyance services, deceptive prize draws, unsolicited first aid kits with demands for payment, direct marketing of slimming products to children and misleading marketing by ‘holidays clubs’. To stop such practices and to protect consumers from being conned or cheated, the Consumer Protection Cooperation Regulation was adopted in 2004. This foresaw the creation of an EU-wide network of enforcement authorities, which would remove barriers to information exchange and empower national officials to work more closely with their counterparts in other Member States. This network, which now starts formal operations, aims to ensure more rapid and coordinated action against cross-border criminal practices and scams. It is a step forward in protecting the interests of consumers across the EU-27 and stopping the abuse of the freedoms of the Internal Market. Further information: http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/prot_rules/admin_coop/index_en.htm.

has anyone ever heard of this company,as i have just recieved a letter today saying i have definetly won £10000 all i have to do apparently is make an order and return it with my winning certificate to get the cash, you can order health stuff for only £4 or so ,anyone had a similar letter
I have dealt with Vitamail and another den of low life called Vital Beauty. Each have the same presentation to such an extent that they must be linked
If they were not bent they would reply to the question - Why do you use the same format? Over a period of two years I have questioned Vitamail about its contadictory statements in its "Terms and conditions" such as "No obligation to purchase" but then insisting that you place an order or if not ordering to return your claim For the £10,000.00 in a plain white envelope. It is obvious that this would make it easier to select the envelope for the incinerator.
Even though the documents contain Assurances, Promises, Guarantees and phrases such as ,YOU HAVE WON; THE CHEQUE IS YOURS! Vitamail draw your attention to its twisted "Terms and conditions" which contain the words
"THIS DOCUMENT CONTAINS NO FIRM PROMISE OF WINNING".
There is no need to take my word alone that these manipulating slugs are liars of the first degree for "Mirror Group News papers" investigated them way back in February 2006. They found that Vitamail was not at Bedford, as claimed, or in Hounslow or a even at the Swiss PO Box it advertised. It did find however that Vitamail is a trading name of a company called PROMONDO In Carros, Southern France. It is hiding because of the lies used to to snare people into buying from its catalogues. Penman & Greenwood have lost count of the potential victims who have received "Official notification" from Vitamail that they have been declared the winner of £10,000.00.
I have cursed Vitamail and Vital Beauty. Called them liars, cheats, Swindlers and SCAM operators but never have they replied or proffered a word to the contrary. They are without defence of their sell a be damned policy.

Photographs suggesting that Promondo is rather larger than just a 'man-and-a-dog' operation in France:

:j Well it looks like I am in a minority!! Had all the letters like others. I have never bought anything from Vitamail but have always sent my reply as directed on the instructions. Use a plain white envelope. Over the last few years I have probably spent at most £20 on postage. In February I had a letter saying I had won and could I send 2 pictures plus other details. Two weeks ago I received a cheque for £10,000!! I banked it quick and it has been paid so I paid off my credit cards!! Thanks Vitamail.

If you believe "Pinkfish" You deserve to be taken to the cleaners by "Vitamail, "Vital Beauty" H & V (a New Vitamail ) Equally obnoxious; Promondo and Preado. This quizling has obviously spent some time At "Vitamail's" Dirty scam school. What he has to say flys in the face of the mass of other evidence to the contrary posted here. Mmmm! Did Margaret Wilson give her approval of the draft ?

But who says that they have no powers of enforcement and offer advice & information only. She suggests contacting, amongst others, the OFT who can act on behalf of groups of consumers, rather than individuals (but I take it that individuals can submit material - anyway that's what I've done):

    European Enforcement Team,
    Office of Fair Trading,
