I too have had numerous letters from Vitamail saying that I had won £10,000 however if you read the small print it says that you have to return your order within so many days from the date that the mail shot was issued and if you look at the date on the mailing and the actual date when you received it the time to claim your prize has already elapsed. So on my receiving my first letter saying I had won £10,00 I just ignored it as the time in claiming had already elapsed - then a month later I got another reminder saying "Claim urgently you have definetly won £10,000" however yet again the time to claim had again elasped. Vitamail are deliberately just trying to obtain orders by deception.
Hope this helps someone - if they receive one in futureRemember is nice to be important but more important to be nice0 -
I get about 2 per week sent to a previous occupant.I follow my own advice and tear up, put in supplied envelope and pop it into the post with no stamp. They must make a fortune to be able to send out so much spam every week.IIRC the tabs costs pennies per hundred, so charging £40 for 25 does give a healthy profit!! (similar to most of the HerbaLife crap).0

I thought I won £10,000 once. I was over the moon and spent loads and loads of money and lived the high life. Alas, when I got the prize it was £10,000 worth of holiday vouchers with conditions to purchase full price first class air line tickets and lifetime travel insurance from this company I never heard of for £10,000. Now I have couty court judgements and my house was emptied by bailiff's last week. Anyone want some holiday vouchers?
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I'm only joking of courseI have had so many mailings saying I have won something. They just go in the bin now. I know they only collect your details and make a database of gullible people they send out loads of crap to.

Reading these forums I can't believe the extent of these cons. It is frightening. When my mother was taken into hospital just before Christmas last year, I discovered the extent she had been taken in by these scum-bags for donkeys years. My father died 6 years ago and I know he had been frustrated by the amount of mail she got and the amount of money she spent on rubbish over the years - I didn't realise how bad it was. My brother and I took over all her finances and her mail is permanently forwarded to me. She had signed her home worth about £200,000 to the equity company who originally had 30%, she had debts of over £9,500 as she had taken out loans and credit cards as well as overdrafts (how can these financial institutions get away with giving money willy-ninny to people over 70 with a fixed income). None of her household bills were paid and she was being chased for payment by everyone. Her home was full of boxes and bags on every square inch of space containing all the mail promising her guaranteed winnings, lottery wealth (El Gordo etc) and 'clairvoyant' claims of good health and fortune, even duplicates with slightly different spellings of her name (and maiden name). I knew the place was a mess but she would never let me pry under all the cloths and covers she hid them under. All the tatt she had ordered is precious to her and she won't let me throw it away, even now. For years we had sneared at the naff jewellery she had 'won' and gave us as presents for birthdays and Christmas, not realising how much they were costing her. She really believed that she wouldn't have to worry about being in debt as she had all this prize money on it's way. Every time she told me she was getting it and how much she would give me, I would explain they were a con and to ignore them. At that time I had no idea who Freidrich Mueller, Vitamail, Vital beauty etc were. If only I had realised that she was receiving about 20 of these letters a day and sending all of them money!!!!! Even after we cleared all the boxes and bags out and thought we had got through to her, I found an order form to one of them dated the day before with a note saying her daughter had forbidden her to continue so please send the prize money to a neighbour. 10 months on her debts are reducing under my control, the mail has decreased due to my tracking them down and being rude. I wrote to Herr Mueller and all those scary looking clairvoyants in French and German and this has reduced the flow from Europe. It's the UK/USA/Australian trash that I cannot stem the flow of. I even bought a fat blue pen to write on the returned envelopes, I have gathered them all together in batches and returned them to one address on a monthly basis, I have ignored them and still they arrive. Mum still gets several phone calls a week saying she has won - she says she swears at them and hangs up but I expect she engages them in her childhood hard luck stories and tells them how wicked her son and daughter are by taking over her life. How do they sleep at night? It's incredible that these thieves can get away with it - send in the SAS, blow them all to bits. In the meantime I will continue fuming every day when I get home from work and find another pile on the mat.0

@soapboxgirl - firstly sorry to hear about the problems.
I wonder if you have a paper trail of all the things your mum has put money into. I would say so long as there was no purchase of goods (which legitimises in some small way the transfer of money as a transaction/purchase) it could be worth pursuing them for the money and a small amount of "damages".
For example, if a company sent a letter saying something like "you have won a holiday please send a registration fee of £50 per person" and no holiday was received, I would see if they still exist. Unfortunately companies like this get closed and open up in a new name all the time. That way they are no longer financially responsible for all the money they got before. Unfortunately some people like to make a dishonest living and make lots of money out of it, if only I didn't have a conscience I might be rich!
Send letters threatening small claims court action where they will have to pay your court costs on top of the reasonable request you are making, and ask them to pay within a set amount of time and hopefully that will get some cheques coming back. If the company does exist and you do take out court action, if they do not turn up at court it will automatically go in your favour, but the only problem is they may not pay.

One way of handling junk mail is to abuse the freepost envelopes. It costs them money if you put them in the postbox.0 -
One option to consider is to have all your parents mail re-directed to your house (about £35 for a year). That way you can screen out all the scammers?0

Well I am with almost everyone else on this. I have been receiving these letters for over a year. I have never purchased anything but just simply send the form back. I have been told I have definately won £10,000 and today I have been to ld that I am due two cheques out of 3 available
(£3590 £2500 £1250)
All I have to do is send back my form and place an order, if I want to receive my chqs quickly. Needless to say I am not placing an order but hey I'll send the form back and see what happens.0 -

Best thing to do is stick it in the bin. Or if you feel like using your time send back the pre-paid envelope empty or with a note with rude words in so long as you can be certain the envelope cannot be tracked to you.0
