Yes, that's not a bad kit for the money. You'll probably want to buy some extra beads. That kit has findings to make up 10 pairs of earrings and 20 bracelets or necklaces, so something like the pack of '200 glass pearl beads 8mm mix' from the same seller would go with it nicely.

    Hello Gold Dust

I'm no expert by any means, but that's quite a good kit, you have the pliers which are always needed when making jewellery and the little booklet is quite good too as it shows you the various techniques, i.e. - wire, wooden, knots etc.

I found that there's also some very good videos on You Tube.

    Enjoy!

    Those are beautiful!

I'm so glad that I found this thread, I am painfully aware of how important an expert's advice is when trying something of the sort. My question is: I want to try jewellery making but not invest heavily - is this kit good enough to give me a taste of it?

Thank you, Sally! I bought a slightly larger kit from the same seller, which has a few more beads, plus the beads that cazmanian minx recommended (I'm hoping to have a good number of each colour). I can't wait to get started, and I'll definitely go and have a look on youtube as well, thank you!

Quick question: what's the difference between a faceted bead and a rondelle bead?

A faceted bead can be any shape, it refers to the way the surface of the bead is cut to reflect light. If you look at this picture:

you can see that the surface is lots of connected flat surfaces rather than a smooth curve. The smaller the facets, the more you can fit onto the surface of the bead and the more light it will reflect.

A rondelle just refers to the shape of a bead. Thin rondelles are sometimes called button beads. Think of them like polo mints with rounded edges :)

So you can also have faceted rondelle beads, like these:

    Does that make it clearer?

    You're welcome Gold Dust.

I must admit I find myself watching lots on there and wanting to give them a go too.

Remember to let us see your makes once you've done some.
