Paid for 2 new tagged dresses and received 1 (possibly) used one, then they were told 'well yes it was my mistake but if you want me to rectify it you will need to be out of pocket by even more money' ????

They received one brand new one, so I offered her half of the money back £3.35 which I thought was fair.

Even if the seller was trying to make the best of a bad situation by offering a 50% refund, the buyer wasnt obliged to accept it, and really the only person who should lose out financially is the OP.

I don't see why I should loose out on even more money the dress cost £20 in the first place, it sold for just £2.70 I paid £4 to post it to the buyer and have paid ebay fees, now I have to find £6.70 to give her back she gets to keep a brand new dress and I loose the money from the sale, my ebay fees and the postage costs to send it out, I am trying to be fair if she had accepted my original offer she would have a brand new dress and a £3.35 refund she would not be out of pocket

Have her send it back if she wants a refund.

I have offered her her money back, and she opened a dispute she doesn't seem satisfied with a refund, I have asked her countless times how she would like refunding ie through paypal or by being sent a cheque but with no reply

Then just do it. Stop dithering. You don't have to ask her, just tell her what you're doing and make a full apology.

Personally I'd send a cheque for £9, £6.70 for the refund and the rest for her to send it back to you.

OP, you are in the wrong, the buyer isn't. A decent seller would give a full refund plus extra for the buyer to send the item/s back. The buyer shouldn't be down by even 1 penny.

Maybe it will be a lesson to check and double check any listings you have in the future.

She paid by cheque so she should be refunded by cheque.
I personally would only refund £6.70 and tell her to keep it.
Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid doing altogether.:D
  • I'm doubting the reading comprehension skills of many of the posters in this thread. The OP has clearly stated that she is willing to pay a refund, and allow the buyer to keep the item.

So why does everyone keep telling her to offer a refund? That's what she's very clearly doing.

I suggest you re-read post 93 and think again......op is still trying to defend her orginal descision of offering the 50% discount and is kicking and fighting to the end not to be out of pocket.....
She really hasn't done herself any favours with the "Why should I" attitude

I think that all points have been covered now in this thread so unless the OP particularly wants it to remain open i will close it now.
