Also as I understand there is no lock-in so if you can fix cheaper elsewhere later on, you can switch again if it suitsjoe2cool0 -
Glad to hear no lock in .....is that for sure?
It has been mentioned a couple of times oearlier in this thread and on another thered I thinkI have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

If it was 8.5% difference for me I would be very tempted. I have recently changed to Eon online v5 and my annual fuel bill is £1,000. If I were to move to SP fixed I would be paying £1,300 which is too much of an increase to sway me.
Also beware you can't transfer this deal if you move house.0 -
I've just phoned scottish power with the intention of moving from my present tariff (online energy saver 4) to the fixed until 2011 tariff.
The guy I spoke to told me the difference in unit price was considerable, in the region of 40%. He then told me the unit costs of both my present tariff and the fixed tariff and to be honest the difference looks more like 20%. This still seems quite a big difference.
I guess he may not have been comparing like with like. But if the difference is genuine I don't think I'll be fixing.something missing0 -

40% sounds very high. Am I looking at the wrong figures, or have I got my calculations wrong?
I've got here (I'm currently on Online Energy Saver 4 dual fuel, monthly DD, SWEB area, looking to switch to the fixed rate with the same features):Energy source Old T1 New T1 %inc Old T2 New T2 %inc Electricity 15.384 17.273 12.3 7.933 9.627 21.4 Gas 3.304 3.998 21.0 2.769 2.769 0.0
Maybe it's different in different areas, but 40%? That sounds wrong.0 -
I'm on Online Energy Saver 4 and currently pay £403 for electricity and £855 for gas which is £1258 p.a. If I switch to the fixed price it will cost £1419 p.a. which seems a lot more.
I dont think I should switch - all comments welcomed0 -

Different supply areas have different prices / increases - I believe when a company says it is putting it prices up by x%, that is just an average of all the areas.
So it is possible in some areas (that have possibly been very cheap previously) the increase cound be almost 40%I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

I'm in the Seeboard area and on the existing SPower "Online Energy Saver 4 dual fuel DD" tariff, my comparison of Online Energy Saver 4 versus "Fixed to 2011" is as follows for what it is worth:
My annual spend under SPower "Online Energy Saver 4 dual fuel DD" tariff,
(all totals before VAT and Dual fuel and DD discounts)
Electricity: £314
Gas: £817
TOTAL: £1131
on the Fixed to 2011 Tariff (N.B Totals are the same whether I go on the "No Standing Charge" or "Standing Charge" tariff)
Electricity: £393
Gas: £837
TOTAL: £1230
Increases
Electricity: £79 (25.3%)
Gas: £20 (2.4%)
TOTAL: £99 (8.8%)
Analysing the differences, the price of gas is effectively the same on both the "Fixed to 2011 Tariff " and the "Online Energy Saver 4 dual fuel DD" tariff, subject to a charge of £1.50 per month for being on the fixed tariff.
Whereas the price of electricity is significantly greater on a per unit basis.
I don't know if this applies across all areas, but 8.8% (if I have done my sums correctly) seems a small premium to pay for certainty over the next three winters especially if I can opt out if the prices should fall.Money Saving Fan.0 -

You have a price increase of 161 pounds per year similiar to us, if prices are to rise by 35% this would be a 440 pound increase. Even if it isn't by that much i'm sure the energy prices will rice, so if currently if your on the cheapest supplier go to SP, and if there are price increases in the next 6 months by a considerable figure you can be quids in and then do a comparison again to check who's the cheapest after the latest price increase.0
