We switched from the on line energy saver 4 tarif to a fixed rate and has made no difference to our dd. Also I have been checking our usage each week and the dd is more than enough to cover our bills.

If you are thinking of switching to this there is £75 Dual Fuel, £35 Single Fuel cashback until this Sunday 4th May from TopCashback.co.uk (so you need to be quick)

I've just gone through the tariffs and calculated my last bill using both the online energy 4 tariff and the fixed tariff. The difference is more like 11% on the total bill.

Thanks to everyone who doubted the 40% and made me do the math. I'm tending towards switching to the fixed tariff now.

It's just a shame the topcashback offer ran out yesterday. Then again I don't think they would pay out because I would only be switching tariff and not supplier.

I currently pay about £660 a year for dual fuel however going on to a capped price until 2011 puts the price im paying up to £725 a year.

I'd like the security of price capping till 2011 but i dont want to pay an extra £65 waiting for it to all go up.

How long do you think i could get away with waiting before changing?
    ipoints - 15005points, Toluna - 58750 points, Lightspeed - 50 points, Topcashback - £8.56(£131.56 pending), Ipsos - 1540 points, Consumer Pulse - 12000 points, Yougov - £15.25, Globaltestmarket - 2310 points, Panelbase £8.70

    Vouchers so far in 2008 - £20 WHSmiths, £5 Sainsburys, £11 paypal.

Very strange. I'm currently with EON (v5). If I do a compare via the switching services to Scottish Power (capped to 2011) .. the increase is around 6%. (£900 to £957 - dual fuel)

But ... if I go via Quidco or direct to Scottish Power - the increase is a massive 31% (£900 - £1182) ! Can't find a clear indicator on their site when they last increased the capped tariffs ...... have they just done so?

    Later

So being curious I rang them ... no increase since Feb. So why an extraordinary gap between (3) comparison sites and their own figures .. I asked? 'Lots of similar complaints .. don't trust the comparison sites' was the reply.
As I've never had issues with the comparison sites before .... anyone enlighten me as to the massive discrepancy?
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

All I can suggest is to do your own calculations based on your current rates (and units used) versus the proposed rates of the tarrif you are interested in.

 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

I'm the same as you Mike apart from the fact the comparison sites are showing the 31% increase for me.

Just checked moneysupermarket and they are showing my current bill as £225 more than energyhelpline. is it EON who have put their prices up?

Just to sum up, energyhelpline and uswitch are showing a 31% increase and my calculations agree with them. moneysupermarket seems to be the problem.

The SP fixed tariff seems to be a no brainer if you are already a SP customer. My question would be why you haven't already moved to a new supplier as SP are not very competitive.

    Hi All
    My head's spinning trying to work out the cheapest tarrif for us;
Our annual usage for past 12 months was 28760kwh Gas and 8691 kwh electric. Yes...I know...it's huge! And only 2 of us living here, but large house, and one of us works at home.
Currently on E-On Online Energy Saver, V2, apparently(?) ..checked with them last week.
They've sent me a letter saying they want to increase my DD up to £166 pm.!!!
I'm not in arrears...I pay £80 pm DD, then whatever is due each quarter. (Just paid £260 as a one off payment). I arranged this last year with then Powergen, as I objected to paying a huge DD each month for it to sit in their bank instead of mine.
I can see where they're coming from, but I'm going to switch anyway, as now they're not Powergen, their Customer Service has gone downhill.
Anyway, can anyone advise the cheapest/best switch, in view of our huge usage, and the imminent fuel price hikes?
    Thanks
    VC

Your gas bill isn't 'huge'. It is above average, but with a a large house and someone working from home, that is to be expected.

Your electricity is very high though and the large house is not a factor as you don't heat with electricity - presumably!

The cheapest supplier depends on where you live and how you intend to pay(DD is the the best way) The internet tariffs are cheapest.

Armed with that information the Comparison sites will give you the correct figures.

Isn't that (partly) why you get a discount for monthly DD as opposed to quarterly billing?

I would imagine at some point they are going to turn around and say they want the DD to cover the usage over the year as you are getting the best of both at the moment (which is great)
