still got the teenage thing to come...:o

Have had flashes of it from DS1 (12), but at the moment he's pretty good, which I ascribe to the OS cooking and lack of E numbers he eats :D:D

bracing myself for when it hits, though, reading some of these

    Good luck!

I dread to think of what my DD (also 12) would be like if she was high on e-numbers and additives too....scarey thought!

So glad I don't have to be a teenager again.

Morning all from a sunny but chilly Kildare,

Hugs to Smoky, AnnieBL, Anniestar, PenPin and to anyone else in need or want.

Had to smile at the teenager stories...had my very irate brother on around 9 grumbling about his 28 year old son, who is just home after 2 years in Italy. Son came home from work at 7 in truck he is driving at present, ate dinner, went to visit his mother in brother's work van and only arrived back at 8.30am. Apparently the house is like a tip...brother is a tidy/clean freak, sometimes not sure that he is related to me at all! So just be aware that it is not just teenage 'children' who drive us nuts.

Bacon, cabbage for dinner, so maybe lentil and ham soup tomorrow, or whatever comes to hand when I start to make it. Will make risotto to-morrow I think, using some of the kilo of Carnaroli rice nephew brought me from Italy.

Off to meet friends for gabby lunch, back later....welcome newbies

I kept my children off all additives and e-numbers; I dread to think what DS2 would have been like if he'd had them! He was definitely worse when someone gave him sweets, especially if they contained tartrazine. They both had very few sweets and even now neither of them has a sweet tooth. Unlike their mother! On that note, HARIBO - those 'fifteens' are delicious! The mixture made loads and loads, too. My DH who has the sweetest tooth I know will think it's his birthday! Thanks for the recipe.

Morning all - coughed myself to sleep at about 4am and only just got up - thank goodness no school today- i had fallen asleep on the sofa and woke to the sound of dd(11) munching crisps as there is apparantly no proper food in the house - apart from the cereal, milk, toast, fruit etc of course. there is a card from the postie to say that I have to pick something up with £3.24 postage to pay - hope it's my tent! Am tempted to buy the ice cream maker at aldi to day as well - what else will I need to make ice cream or frozen yogurt?

checked my bank account last night only to find that when dd(18) was her the other day ebaying all her paypal payments have gone through my account - yikes - she will transfer the money back into my account today I hope. I have also paid site fees and ordered train tickets for my first camping trip of the year - a weekend in oxford for the bank holiday

House is still a tip but dd(11) has promised to do Jobs For Pay today while she's off so should go a bit quicker.

I have such gaps between the girls that I had a toddler and a teenager at the same time - that was fun! the littlest picked up all the things the biggest said so she would lie down in Tescos and scream something like "I wish I'd never beed born." Youngest dd is practising now for the horrors to come - the big thing at the moment is her antagonism towards exoh's gf and she tries to play us all off against each other. I think exoh has moved in with his gf so it needs to be sorted. We are all meeting up on Sunday at a gig (Love Music Hate Racism - Victoria Park E3 - free - if anyone's near there). the gf seems really nice and if dd(11) doesn't want to see her then she'll have to spend less time with her dad

Martyn - the wildlife group sounds brilliant - good luck with that
Annieb - thats a lovely idea
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 2008

Sooooooooooooo know how you feel. DS is nearly 15 and was such a kind, loving wee mummies boy and now a horendous, nighmare of a teenager. The terrible twos were nothing compared to the temper tantrums  he throws now. He drives me to distraction sometimes and as hard as i try to stay calm and not react it is really hard :o He seems to think i am his personal assistant/servant/cash point and refuses to do any chores because he 'just doesnt like doing housework' He also comes down the stairs at 7.30am with black sunglasses  on which infuriates me even more. He must think he's some superstar or sommat or that the paparazzi are waiting outside! He tripped over his school bag the other morning and i had to stifle a giggle :rotfl: :rotfl: obviously couldnt see clearly LOL

He threw a wobbler last week because i asked him to put his crisps and juice in his pack lunch box (he usualy swaps everything i put in anyway) but because i put everything in my OH's lunch box and even put the lid on, apparently that means i love OH more than i love my son (silly boy) and he shouted at me that he hates me and cant wait till he's 16 and can go and live with his grandma :j oops i mean

I told him why wait till you're 16 just go now, you can pack your things when you get home. He stormed off to school and came home a different child ;)

I think sometimes you have to call their bluff a bit and i have always found it doesnt help to get into a power struggle. Dont pick a battle you know you wont/cant win. And get them where it hurts ie up coming school trip for which i did not give my permission for him to go. Furious  he was but i explained the reasons why not and stuck to them. He had to accept it eventually when he realised i wasnt going to give in.

Ha, a battle i COULD win

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone

    Fi

I had to laugh when my SIL sent a birthday card to dd when she was 16, saying "you're 16....best leave home NOW while you still know-it-al!"
