...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
Personally I wouldn't bother with the gym, I'm in a similar position by which I mean single and mid twenties (I'm a guy though *waves).
When I was looking round my gym they were all saying I'd make loads of friends etc etc. But I haven't. People just exercise with their ipods on or look in "the zone". It's ridiculous!
Facebook is where I have got a number of friends from, I seem to be good at getting dates on the internet, but put me in a pub/club situation and I freeze (apart from Saturday just gone - I was on fire).
But in all seriousness, I think a class is better than a gym.
Hi (waving back)
To be honest gyms scary me and exercise isn't something that comes naturally, so I probably wont be joining.
Once i am comfortable in my surroundings i am reasonablely out going, but if i not I can be really shy. Which means people don't notice me, plus I have what I call 'fat friend' syndrome. I was always the fat friend that made everyone else look good. Although I've lost loads I still think like that even though my best mate says I look like a 'normal' person now!!!
So what happened on Saturday?? Or don't we want to know?Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -

Saturday was my first night out in a starnge city (Hull) and the first drinking night out in a month.
I was just talking to countless girls that's all, which is so unlike me, I usually freeze. But with my best mate as my wingman and bit of courage I was fine.
You probably don't want to know the rest.
P.S. If you lived near me, I'd go for a drink with you!"I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -

Ahh fanks.
I get chatting to blokes, but my problem is I am a good classy lady. Which means a lot of blokes I meet lose interest.
I do have some horror stories though.Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -

You're right, Hull is a VERY strange city!
We moved away from all our friends a few years ago and found it really hard as well. Recently I've made quite a few friends on t'interweb, mainly through this site and Netmums (no use to you if you don't have kids though, sorry!) and my OH takes the pee out of me, calling them my 'imaginery friends'! But I've met loads of people in the local area, while he's still trying to keep in touch with old uni mates all over the country, so he's starting to think I'm not a sad freak after all! While Netmums might not be any good to you, perhaps it's worth joining some sites that you do have an interest in? I know a lot of people get really involved in the Ebay forums for example, or collectors clubs?
Not meaning to be cheeky by this, but what about joining weight watchers or the like? Not to lose weight, but to meet people - I found them friendly when I went in the past, and if you've already lost loads of weight then you'll have loads of confidence to go with it and don't have to worry too much about following their diet!0 -
I'm in a similar situation, having just moved into a new area. One thing I have thought about, although not yet got around to organising, is evening classes. Learn a new skill at the same time as making friends with like-minded people. They aren't too expensive, and even if you don't meet a new friend or partner, you still have a new skill!

Well my personally favourite is the one at a friends wedding.
A very kind friend of mine took it upon himself to introduce me to an old friend of his.... lovely guy, good job, attractive. But there was one problem. Lucy had drunk 6 glasses of wine and sat there laughing for 20 mins before said man got up and walked away......
*goes red and all embarassed!*
He never spoke to me again....Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
The things which cemented my thoughts of Hull being strange were:
1) In a club they had a take away on the top floor WITHIN the club
2) Another place had cross dressing men on stilts.
EDIT: Yeah for stories!!And with that it's back to work for me as my lunch is over.
Good luck with your salsa lesson and take care. byeee!
