Meeting new people with little or no money - Is it possible??

Hi Lucy,
Well it looks like you may well be 'in' with several people on this thread, but just wanted to say that I'm the same age as you and up until November was in a similar position. I'd been single for four years, the first two happily, the second two not so happily. At mid-twenties age when all your friends are getting married and engaged, you start to feel as though you've missed some sort of relationship 'boat' (or I did), whenever I went out (rarely, as like you, most of my friends live miles away now) the bars seemed to be full of either seventeen year olds or 50-60 year olds.
My friends cajoled me into trying internet dating. I was reluctant too, especially to go on Match or something like that which costs a bomb, so I consulted MSE as I do for everything and plentyoffish.com was mentioned - it's totally free to send messages and everything so I thought what have I got to lose? I know someone earlier on said it was full of weirdos, but I went out with about four people before I met my boyfriend and they were all really nice, we just didn't click.
True, you do get the occasional message from someone listing his hobbies as "Fun, sex, beer, sex, football, sex" (This is an actual quote), but if you're prepared to grit your teeth and delete those types then for every one of them there's a genuine person who just doesn't meet new people in their everyday life. I didn't post a picture up, just looked around and if someone caught my eye I'd send a message and attach my pic to that.
If you're going to try internet dating, I'd advise you to be open-minded and embrace the nature of it. You don't have to go on dates with everyone you chat to, just enjoy getting to know people. My boyfriend lives a little way away from me, but I'd had a glass of wine or two (very Bridget Jones!) and sent him a message anyway, thinking we'd just have a chat, but a couple of weeks later we met up and are now totally loved-up and happy.
Bit of a long ranty post, but really I'd recommend internet dating to anyone because if nothing else, it gets you out and about and meeting people again. Good luck with it!! xWeightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Oh, and another word of advice - don't go near Face Party as someone told me to - that really is full of weirdos who post pictures of themselves in the nuddy!!!! (Unless you like that type of thing... I'm not one to judge...)Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0

I think it is something that you can try and if you don't like it or it's not for you then you can stop.
I would just need to build up the courage!!
But you never know unless you try.Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -

I'm not either... but there are somethings that shouldn't be shared with strangers. Plus there is getting to know someone and then there is getting to know someone :eek:Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
Haha, exactly. Talk about having an air of mystery!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0

I'm on facebook but I think I've got my profile set to private so that random folks don't add me, I'm still not sold on the idea of meeting a stranger online. Not buying unnecessary toiletries 2024 26/53 UU, 25 IN0 -

I have to say, I am liking this plentyoffish.com site.
I think I have a talent for internet dating sites, starting conversations on the internet in general. In a pub/club in a sober state at least I turn to jelly!
I am so glad I am young in this decade where internet dating exists!!!"I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
