That won't be a problem as long as you got then back in the oven pretty sharpish. All the big cooks/chefs tell you to put the tin over a hotplate/gas ring while pouring the batter in to keep it hot, but I don't bother unless I'm making a big tray full of the little bun-sized ones, as it takes longer to pour them all out, or if the kitchen is exceptionally cold ;)

Oooh, thanks for that tip CQ. Never heard that one somehow and must admit that I had wondered about how hot the oil would be by the time I had poured the 12th lot of batter in. Might try that too when I put me roasties in as I use a metal tray (usually)
  • Thanks CQ they were perfect!!! looking through the glass oven door every 2 minutes.. it's like when i first had my breadmaker.. was looking through the glass lid of that every 2 minutes... Everyone was very impressed.... already thinking about making my first toad and the hole!!!!

What a nice day... kids have played board games and watched TV, I have done all the ironing whilst watching eastenders .. DH has got some jobs done... I have not even got dressed!!! A lovely sunday..

Really makes me sad that these are so few and far... I work most weekends and DH normally works away all week... need to really cut back and think about going partime.

Just though of the best bit... spent nothing today!!!!
  • Hi all,
Just a quick post as I've a to do list as long as my arm.

After a rough nights sleep (sounds like everyone else had the same sort of night) OH got up at half five. I had to get up at the same time as he decided it was too early to get up and go home, so I had to show him how to use the computer as a DVD player. Went back to sleep and dreampt of chickens. Realised this was because OH was watching river cottage with the lovely Hugh F-W, on the other side of the bedroom wall, so could hear a bit of the talk.

Went for a lovely long walk in the woods, we were up there about 4 hours, then went to Wetherspoons for lunch.

This afternoon I've watched Fridays' "tales from the green valley" - v good, and made some lip balm. My pot at work is running a little low so I'll take a fresh batch in tomorrow (if I remember.)

Now, off to change the bed, put my hot water bottle in coz its FREEZING then do my ironing. Oh my, does it never end???

Enjoy the rest of the day all.

  • Morning All

Not a good night-I think im coming down with whatever DD has (flu or something and sorethroat/head etc. Not supposed to be near anyone with a cold, sore throat...anything really as I have no immune system, but what can you do if its your child  Life goes on..lol.

Have 2 washloads to do, 20 min blitz & OH still doing some of DD's room. The walls are really bad and has to plaster, rub down and line twice before the wallpaper can go up

Not sure if DD will be at school today as she was quite bad last night and sounded terrible. Temp was 102  and looked very flushed and voice sore. Will see when she gets up. If she's at home she will have to rest as she needs to get back to school ASAP due to her 11+ in a few weeks. Will get out the freezer 2 of her rolls she likes and give her cheese rolls for lunch :D Lots of OJ and water/squash.

OH has to get to the post office some time today as we have 10 parcels all ready to go. We use the smart stamp thing from RM so its already weighed and paid for-just need them to stamp the proof of postage in case of a claim. The woolwich is next door and have some cheques that need paying in too.

Will get him to get a loaf of bread and maybe 2 small baguettes for our lunch, have some chicken left and fancy chicken, lettuce, beetroot, grated carrot and mayo....yummy. Dinner tonight will be either lamb chop or breaded cod with mash and peas.

Asda shop is due this afternoon, hopefully the chicken mispriced on the website for £1 each will go through and if not I will contact customer services and get money refunded that way  They are 1.9kg chickens so quite big and will do us at least 3 meals and sarnies :p

Anyway, Im off as Im feeling rough and head thumping.
    Have a great day.

  • morning Penny and everyone else.
sorry you had a bad night penny xx
its blowing a gale here this morning with torrential rain so i think i will stay in the cosyness of my flat today. dont really need to go out for any reason anyway.
todays plans are: got some dishes to do from soup making last night but apart from that my flat is sparkly as gave it a good clean yesterday. Might put a wash on but not sure if i have a full load yet i'll have to check. going to dye my hair today so sure it'll look like a blood bath in the bathroom after that it usually does.
since its freezing !again! think i'll have some porridge for breakfast, soup for lunch and some homemade fishcakes for tea, was just reading the fishcake thread. Might try to get some stuff listed on ebay sure i have things i could sell wanted to do a boot sale with them but i am yet to find a willing car owner to take me. Might see if i can find an indoor one or something.
hopefully get all that done this morning then my dads coming ot visit this evening so in between think i might watch my spongebob squarepants dvd I'm such a kid!
    Have a good day everyone

  • morning all,
sorry to hear you had a bad night P_P........i do hope you and your DD are feeling better soon xxx

well i've had about 3 hours sleep :-(........DD1 has a bad cold and had nightmares last night so was up several times with her then DD2 woke at 5am just after DD1 had dropped back off so i decided to get up with her rather than risk her waking DD1 up. am off out tonight too so i'll feel it tomorrow im sure!!

wrote down everything that was in our cupboards last night(omg how, how, how is there sooooooo much),had done the freezer the other day so will now look at both and do some serious meal planning.....i seriously think we could eat for the best part of a month without going shopping for anything other than milk and fruit/veg.

have got the washing in the machine but dont know yet wether it'll be nice enough to hang it out.

will be back later........off for cup of tea.

    Hi All

Missed you all over the last week!

Back at work, and doing the early shift all week.

Had a good day yesterday, went to a continental market in the morning, then blackberry picking in the afternoon. Made an apple and blackberry crumble for pudding yesterday, with apples from the garden and some of the afternoon's labour! Made enough to feed about 8 people - there's one portion left and there's only three of us in the house!

Got some Chrimbo cards ready to write, done the list so I know who's receiving. Gone down from nearly 80 to 20 this year - what a saving through ditching the boyfriend!!!

    Well better do some work

Well, At least its not raining today! As I promised a while back, when I moved and it was practical to use public transport, I would. I now take the bus to work and back, hence being glad its not raining!

Managed to get quite a stack done yesterday, lots of laundry and ironing and organising, and now the bedroom looks a lot neater and everywhere is clean. Im just exhausted now and want to go back to bed, unfortunately I have to go to work. At least I like work!

Salmon for dinner tonight, and ive decided that we must go shopping, I only have fishcakes in the freezer, salmon in the fridge, and a pint of milk. I definately need to do a small stock up!

    Have a lovely day all!

    Jo xx
