I'm a beggar for travelling with next to nothing ever since I spent 3 nights away with a shopaholic colleague who only took a large handbag with her yet dressed to impress every night we were away. She's definately got this down to a fine art so I've taken up the challenge.
One of her top tips is that she invested in a gorgeous pair of red stilettos that fold in half and fit in their own little pouch. They did cost a bit but have saved her a small fortune in only having hand luggage.
Myself...If I can't carry it, it doesn't go. Simple... I don't even possess a suitcase anymore. And I've even heard of people using those vacuum bags that suck all the air out to shrink their stuff down enough to fit in hand luggage. The only toiletries I take are make-up and I buy the other stuff when I arrive and leave it behind when I leave.0 -

Omg wish I could travel so lightly, been trying to cut back on weight now for a few years but every time I manage to be just under the 20kg, even for just a long week end. End up not wearing most of what I bring and vowing to travel lighter next time which never happens. I do bring a small Iron couldn't survive without that,0 -
No probs.
For more than a long weekend, find a bag with a wide, sturdy shoulder strap that you can wear across your body. I have a black, suede effect shoulder bag that wears almost nothing and cost a tenner from Tesco and has a zip top wide enough to fit a coat hanger in.
Put all your clother onto one hanger and cover with a bin bag. Fold the clothes into your bag and stuff the sides with underwear, etc... Or another method is to get a small back pack that fits the handluggage dimensions and have a few practise runs to see how much you can fit in.
It's all about limiting yourself.0 -

Please find out where she got them. I always take too many shoes. I've finally found a pair of nice but comfortable (not words usually found together when talking about shoes) fold up shoes, but they are all flat.

Holidays are comming up soon for all of us. I like to have a holiday in the sun. My top items for the case will be swim ware and kaftans to cover.
I also find room for my itsa. It is a sunbed cover/beach bag/towel in one. Look on www.theitsa.com a great bit of beach kit.
I am also a fan of washing clothes on a 2 wk holiday so I take a travel washing line. It has the pegs on the elastic line.
I think like many have said for us girls .I x long trousers, 1 x 3/4 lenth trousers and 2/3 shorts with various tops, a sun dress or 2, a cardi, light jacket.A pashma.
Undies and 1 nightdress.
I bet it all changes when I go to pack the case though! If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

Surely all you need is a tooth brush and a credit card???0

I take one bottle of Dove shampoo. I buy the extra rich one for dry hair, it's so creamy, I can get away without conditioner for a week, (although always take a couple of free sample sachets, I save up from mags etc throughout the year, just in case) and also use it for handwashing and in the shower or bath and for washing clothes. That means by the end of the week it's usually empty and I can chuck the bottle!
I rarely buy toiletries/ sun lotion etc on hol, except as treats or presents. I always find them way more expensive than the £ shops or special offers at home.0 -
When you get home from your holiday take note of everything in your suitcase which was not worn or used and dont take it again next time. Also at home measure exactly how much shampoo, shower gel etc you use in one week, you will be surprised how little you actually need. Decant that amount into small bottles for your holiday.0

anyone think it's possible to get two peoples packing in one case for a allowance of 20kg?. ?The only electrical gadget going will be my straighteners. The rest just t-shirts for me/DH, shorts, cardi/jumper etc. I'm getting a little worried now!!0
