Ronnie i've got some bad news for you - bread has already gone up up by 3-4p a loaf and the bakeries are putting the increase solely down to the increase in price on electric, gas & road fuel. The price of raw ingredients have hardly moved at all (1p per kg on flour which again is down to increased energy costs).

I am now having a self-imposed speed limit at 10% below the maximum, i.e. doing 63 mph (instead on 70) on motorways and dual carriageways with national speed limit, 54 mph on single carriageways, 45 mph on 50 mph roads etc. as I believe this will save about 10% on fuel consumption. Use of car is restricted to weekends only for family and shopping. Every day commuting is on the bus using a monthly bus pass - and travel the hell out from them!
As some people rightly say, enough is enough and we are not putting up with this forever price increase any more no matter whose fault that is!0 -

It all sounds very good saying "well as the crude price goes up the government should lower the tax so we pay the same price" - but how do you propose the government makes up the lost income??? Cutting spending or raising a different tax?
You cannot blame anyone for the rising cost of petrol - it is rising because there is not enough oil in the world to fuel our needs.
Don't you believe it, Brown set duty on an oil price around $30 a barrel so when it goes to $70 a big bonus of tax flows in. When price at pump goes up Brown makes more VAT on the increase! There should be a floating duty to offset the extra tax bonus the Government makes.0 -
Couldn't believe it when i went to get petrol yesterday at my local Texaco and it was £1.00 a litre  Went else where, but it was still 98p!!! ARGH! I am as skint as anything, cant afford the petrol prices!:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:I gave up jogging for my health when my thighs kept rubbing together and setting fire to my knickers:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:0

While there are arguments for and against reducing tax on fuel, the argument of making up for lost income is not valid - it's just political spin that gets trotted out whenever this particular tax is queried. During the fuel protests, the government claimed that reducing tax on fuel would mean that hospitals and schools would suffer. For that to be the case, the government would have had to have allocated funds to schools and hospitals out of the tax on unexpected fuel price increases. That is unlikely to have been the case (and it would certainly be worrying if the government did rely on unexpected windfalls from oil price increases to fund health and education).0 -
It s OK, it is just that I dont appreciate being called funny names from a total stranger. How would you like me to call you Rosbif?
