I heard that petrol prices are going up atleast 5pa litre at midnight tonight so fill up now if you can.

Petrol at local Shell garage still 94.9 per litre for deisel. 90.9 Unleaded

No doubt prices will rise futher, but no point panic buying.

I have a larger concern for house/home heating oil. Most of us fill up for the winter, there will be a big shock!!! Lst Feb I had 1000 litres at 23p plus vat, my bill was £250. This week the cost for a tankfull wasover £350...ouch and still rising!!!
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!

I'm sure prices usually take about 6 or 7 weeks to filter through to the pumps. The fuel you are buying just now was bought within the past week or so and won't move again until they buy their next load which could be another week away. So as was said above, no need for panic buying.

The bulk price for fuel today is about 77.2p per litre for diesel and 76.2p for unleaded which translates to the current prices of approx 94.9p and 91.9p respectively. (The mark up on diesel always seems to be a few pence higher). Petrol stations buying fuel today will be paying roughly the same as they did this time last week for diesel and about 0.6p more per litre for unleaded. So no chance of a 5p leap today at least.
  • Did it not say in the budget that petrol prices on hold till september? I remeber having been interviewed on radio what i thought of the budget and i was supprised that petrol wont go up till september
    While I breathe.... I hope

hopefully wont go up anymore other nearly every petrol station in the country will have to change their signs to accept 4 digit numbers

A lot of the Texacos near me switched in the last couple of months to using the red dot matrix electronic displays with space for an extra digit. Similarly Essos I've seen on the motorway (though I don't have any near me) have switched to red seven segment LED displays with space on the left for the extra digit.

Of the others in my area, some have space for the extra digit but others, including a newly refurbished/refitted one don't which seems really odd. As someone else pointed out though - it wouldn't take much to just stick a 1 to the left of the price. As long as the pumps will work that is. I seem to remember there was a bit of a panic about pumps being able to go over 99.9 back when we had the fuel protests.

Yes, it's the pumps and the associated systems that need the additional digit, not just the signs. Maybe they'll have to start selling the stuff in pints.

I was at Tesco a couple of hours ago and was going to fill up because I only have a quarter tank left and will be really busy next week. The pumps were all filled with four deep waiting. So I guess there are a lot of people out there filling up in anticipation of the increase.

maybe if we get enough people panicking we can make the prices rocket ?
or just invade some middle eastern state - that usually does the trick.

how is it that OPEC can't actually control the price? must be the worst cartel in history.

Maybe they could control the price better and it does go against thr grain for me to defend oil producers and oil companies but our wonderful Government do tax petrol at something like 80% so there must be room for movement there somewhere. During the last petrol price blockades we asked OPEC to produce more to reduce the price per barrel, their answer was reduce your taxation policy, fair comment I would say.
