  • i bought 2600 lts of diesel from my fuel supplier on Tuesday and he warned me that the wholesale price of diesel & petrol had risen by 5p lt and that it wouuld filter through to the pumps PDQ.

p.s if anyone is wondering if buying 2600 lts at a time saves you money - i paid 80p + vat = 94p lt and that is AFTER shopping around 6 different suppliers.

After hearing from some friends in the USA, I don't think we do too bad. Their prices are still far cheaper, less than half ours, but the gap is closing fast. WE have rises of 2-5 p per litre, they are getting $1 a gallon rises almost daily. This week it's gone up by about 30p a litre since monday. I still would rather pay their price though

  • Hi n9eav i don't know if this helps a lot but if you do a google search on "(state of choice) gasolne prices" you will get an instant price comparison.

I tried one here for Kentucky and it is quite interesting to see the price differences that occur when market forces control the pricing rather than huge government taxation !

Just checking quickly you can still get regular unleaded for $2.65 per US gal which works out at about £1.44 per us gal or £1.73 per uk gal.

They're hardly in the realms of £4.30 gal that i paid for diesel this morning !

p.s. my inlaws live in Kentucky and have just recently been over here on a visit. Back home in Kentucky when their friends are complaining about fuel prices they tell them that they were paying $6.66 for the equivalent of a us gal for petrol in England - they think we're all mad for standing it !!
  • Well Ive been putting £20 of petrol in my car for 15 years and its not got any dearer.
Its still £20 when I get to the checkout !!!!!!!!!!!

I remember when £6, (and a free tiger token), could last most of the week. But then again I would not like to drive around in a Morris Marina any more either

Majority of petrol stations have now hit £1.00 a litre at least - Tescos are bringing in new boards so they can display the extra digit.

MARTIN - CAN YOU HEAR OUR PLEA - WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT???????????

This is my single biggest outgoing and in 12 days I will be unable to get to work - I'm the only one in our office who has to pay for my own fuel. :-(

iam not one for strikes and all that BUT enough is enough, we all know that the crude prices worldwide are making our forecourt prices go up afterall its not the fault of esso, shell & bp they simply supply.

its our goverment who are at fault by charging wild tax on our petrol.

if the crude prices keep increasing its not going to take long before everyday items like bread/milk etc increase in price which will badly effect people on the breadline.

i do hope someone out there starts of another blockade or arranges for everyone with a car/van/truck to block the streets of all the major cities, causing gridlock. our police etc do not have the resources to deal with such major action on our streets - we must get our point accross that normal people who are lawabiding cant continue paying rip off prices any more!!!

    Time for action

Interestingly, an article in the Mirror this morning pointed out we are no longer the cheapest place in Europe for petrol (Belgium, Holland, Denmark and somewhere else were all more expensive). We are on a par with Germany.

It all sounds very good saying "well as the crude price goes up the government should lower the tax so we pay the same price" - but how do you propose the government makes up the lost income??? Cutting spending or raising a different tax?

You cannot blame anyone for the rising cost of petrol - it is rising because there is not enough oil in the world to fuel our needs.
