Well it stands to reason anyway doesn't it - oil prices rise and they put fuel prices up - no change there then. Thanks OP. I heard it was going up too - just didn't think to post it here to be honest.3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Was there not a tax increase in the Budget, is the goverment going ahead with this tax increase?
Was that not due to take effect from September?0 -
AFAIK the tax increase was due to take effect tomorrow 1st Sept, however, it has been postponed til November apparntly.
It may be part of this rumour people mistakingly thinking the duty is going to rise tomorrow, .............it isn't.
The duty rise is soomething like 1.21p per litre I think.0 -
Ta Mclaren you got saved me at least £19.
I was faced with a 300 mile 6-7 hr drive and at least £30 petrol - Your post made me think and I then spotted a half price rail tickets thread on MSE and booked a rail ticket for £41. So instead of £60 for the return trip, I get no wear and tear on the car and a 5 hr journey time and save £19.
Sadly I have no choice in some of my other journeys so I just hope this never ending petrol price rise stops.
I am glad you posted and as long as people take the time to do so, then someone will save some money along the way and it all helps. Is that not what the MSE forums are for?

Wig wrote:Then why do people always rush to the pumps just after the chancellor says "petrol duty will go up 2p from 6pm today" ?
Because they think they are going to save £20 or something, when probably they are saving only £1 and it causes unnecessary panic buying.0 -
I've got an obsession with looking to see how much the petrol costs when I pass a garage, I hate to pay for it and then find it 3p cheaper down the road... so if I can get it cheaper today on the basis of 'you never know' then why not!
Thanks for the tip!0 -
exactly
mind you an increase of 5p makes a 100 pound difference in a year if you have to drive 40 miles to work and back..."Don't cry, Don't Raise your Eye

I appreciate your posting mclaren.
Whats that old saying about pleasing some of the people some of the time.......0 -
my hubby rang me from work at lunchtime and told me to fill up the car and jerry cans, as he had heard this on the radio today. he said the price is set to rise overnight (tonight). i havent had the radio on to hear it myself (damn kids making too much noise) but he wouldnt lie to me, so I believe it. It may not go up, but I believe it is expected/feared.
thanks mclaren, i just came to post this.If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all0
