Exactly! So, given that....I propose we refuse to buy Edinburghlass a drink on Thursday, on the grounds that she is calling all our stuff junk! Humph!
aliasojo, you and r.mac could just bring your junk on Thursday and swap it

    Good luck.

I'm doing bite sized chunks too - I'm going to make sure I keep track of my Grocery spend for the whole month (third time lucky) so that I can later join the next month's Grocery Challenge with at least a clue as to what I'm aiming at. Largely living from my freezer when I had the builders in, and earlier no cooker either, really made a mockery of the numbers I was getting. This month's should be real.

    I hope :)

Edit: And I realised that in fact I made myself a couple of resolutions last week - one to make more new recipes, and two to make SURE that I spend at least an hour putting my house back together again now that the builders are all done.

Ok, as this has now turned into the pledge thread I guess I'd better make a list! I'm going to start off with baby-steps, which I'm sure any of you having suffered with depression, or know of anyone who has, will fully understand ;)

    1) To shower and dress every morning, preferably before pouring the :coffee: and settling at the PC ;)

    2) To get back to cooking from scratch, starting with at least 3 main meals per week and doubling up/freezing where possible to use on the other days. No more than one take-away a week allowed!

    3) To start making meal plans and base shopping lists on buying what I actually need and not what I think I need or want ;)

    4) To make sure all washing-up is done and kitchen is clean before going to bed each night.

    5) To mop the kitchen/bathroom floors at least once a week and not just when I think it looks like it needs doing! :o

    6) To dust and hoover one room per day (only 3 rooms, not counting kitchen/bathroom, so should get done twice a week each this way)

    7) To get three boxes labelled Ebay, Charity, and Rubbish and place at least one item in each per day to help reduce some of the clutter :o

I think, for me anyway, that's a reasonable list to be getting on with and I know it doesn't sound a lot to some people but it will make a huge difference to me if I can manage to stick to it :)

    Ok. Here's mine.

    1) Do a car boot sale(not just talk about doing one) so when I move I don't tale junk I've not used for 15 years with me.
Plus not buy anything at aforementioned car boot (unless it is is mega bargain obviously).

    2) De -clutter (properly) and not get distracted by books and letters and photos I find.

    3) Make more meals out of the food already in the cupboards/freezer and not buy extra every day.

4)Organise my computer files - and stop giving them all very similar names.

    5)Make some me time..........

Hooray! Glad you all liked the idea. I'm going to start off gently too.

    My pledges for September:
    1. Save all food receipts so I can see how much we spend
    2. Input all my spending into the computer so I can see if I'm going to go overdrawn and avoid bank charges!
    3. Try to sell as much as possible on ebay or Amazon that I would usually throw out when we move house next week
    4. Take packed lunches to work

    :D

  • This is a great idea. I will...
Cook from scratch AT LEAST 3 times a week. (I am at the moment, but go back to work next week, so it will be more difficult)
Go to bed earlier (instead of lurking on here) and get up earlier to get a better start.
Try and make some more me time (by getting up earlier!) and use this time to make cards and sew and knit.

Theres loads more but I think Ill start small so its achievable, and these are all quite nice ones I think.

For the potential e-bayers out there, I had a big listing that finished at the weekend. I listed 22 items and sold 19, everyone paid (I set up a paypal account) more or less straightaway. After I posted them all yesterday, (the poor man in the post office looked a bit frazzled by the end) I had made £52, enough to buy the kids Clarks shoes for school. All the stuff I would have given away usually.

Good grief C_Q, those are meant to be baby steps?????

I don't think I do any of them just now! (And I've no intention of putting them on my 'to-do' list at the moment either!) :rotfl:

I know! Once I read it back I took a huge <gulp> and realised that I'm being far too over-ambitious as usual and trying to push myself too hard :o

I think maybe trying just one of those steps at a time is a more realistic target for now ;) I know if I try to do to much I'll end up crawling back into my pit never to emerge again, which is why I'm also avoiding the daily OS chatty threads at the moment (no offence to anyone) but reading what everyone is managing to achieve in a day can be rather depressing and is what badly triggered me off last time :(

But on the bright side, I did manage to shower and dress this morning (usually slob around in pj's :o ) and I also cleaned the bathroom and mopped the floor after my dear son flooded it taking his shower

I've also dug out some chilli that was festering at the bottom of the freezer so we can have a good HM dinner later (had the left-over pizza for lunch) so I'm feeling rather pleased with myself right now :D

What I should really add as no. 1 on the list is: NOT to spend all day reading/posting to MSE - otherwise nothing else will ever get done LOL! But at least it's been a good way of distracting my mind from the usual gloom and doom today :D

Well Done and please do not push yourself too hard.:A

Anything that you can feel good about doing and that makes you feel bettter is more important than just tackling a huge list of "stuff" for the sake of it.

I had a day where I seemed to do nothing but cook - but everything was delicious and thoroughly enjoyed.

If only my pile of ironing could be cleared in 4 hours - I reckon it will take at least 8
