Pledges

Right, I am very new so sorry if this seems like a really bad idea to everyone
But, I have been looking through all the brillinat ideas on this forum and thought it might be a good idea to have a monthly pledges sticky, so you can post and do things gradually and revuew it at the end of the month to see how well you have done.
You know, like:
'This month I will use coke instead of toilet cleaner, I will pre-make and freeze meals and I will stop feeding the kids (joke)'
I think it would be really useful for me, especially as pledges made in public (sort of public anyway) are easier to stick to.
Just an idea anyway.

The idea of making a public commitment might be a good one but make sure you do not try to cut down too drastically - the idea is to make small comfortable changes and to do one or two things before adding other changes.
I worry that if to try to stop all amusements or treats then you will get sick of it and give up."This site is addictive!"

Hi Annav, Nice to see ya on the Ol'Style board. Some of the very best ideas and sticky threads that are now cast in stone came from then newbies. It's always good to see new faces. Some of us have been here sooooo long that Ol'Style was New Style when we started. heheh I won't mention any names cos it would just embarass themLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

Oooh, I quite like this idea. I've made loads of little changes, but there are hundreds more I could and probably should consider.
If other people are posting their pledges it might give some of us less Godessy domestic mortals some inspiration and ideas for things we might not otherwise have considered.
It would be different to the current challenges we have cos the pledges dont need to revolve around how much we spend. My budget is so tight at the moment it's literally dictated by how much cash i have in my purse - period. So i dont always feel like the pin money and the budget challenge really apply to me (I know they do and I'm kind of already doing it, but it doesnt feel like it properly
)
I would definitley support this idea so please, go on, can we???
I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are – Milton Berle0 -
I think it's a really good idea too, especially after the school holidays when everything old style seems to have fallen by the wayside.
I even sent out for pizza last night when I'd already bought everything needed to make one

You're not the only one hun and we're having the left-overs for tea tonight (get a small one free with a 12" and we only ate half of that one!)
I think this pledge thing sounds like a great idea and might be just what I need to get back on track again too :j"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

I like this idea too

Give me a chance to catch up with things (RL is intruding again) and I'll change the thread name to "Pledges". I'm not sure it needs to be a sticky because I think it's going to be So-o-o-o-o-o busy it'll never fall of the first page...

Hoorah!! Thanks Squeaky

I'm afraid that I've slipped off the wagon too - I don't have the excuse of small children home for the holidays to distract me, mine are big and don't need entertaining and amusing (if anything it's the other way around, they entertain and amuse me) but having them around all the time has made me take my eye off the ball, so I'm with you all on this(hello again Curry_Queen, nice to see you back) I need a bit of a shove or I'll slide until it's Christmas and then wish I'd tried harder0

Ok let's get started then shall we??
For the month of September I Pledge to:
1) Make a minimum of 4 meals per week entirely from scratch. (I'm probably averaging 3 at the moment)
2) Learn how to log items for sale on E-Bay and list the junk that is currently taking over my spare room.:o
3) Make a list of all the people I need to buy Christmas presents for and come up with ideas for each of them.
OK - so not Earth Shattering, but I think it's both useful and managable for me at the moment.
Right then - wish me luck!!I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are – Milton Berle0 -
I might join in with this one.

I'm not big on the home cooking/housewifey side of things so my pledges will be:
As MrsB.......I WILL clear space by eBaying. (I collect things particularly to eBay then never seem to get round to it - My cupboards are bursting with boxes of stuff!)
I WILL (try
) to keep on top of the washing and not let the basket overflow regularly as it does now. (What can I say..I'm no domestic Godess either.)
I realise these are poor pledges given the skill of some of you lot round here.....but those 2 would be acheivements for me. :rotfl:Herman - MP for all!
