I'd just like to add a note of caution here. While there is nothing wrong with these systems, you get what you pay for. For some of these GPS may have older versions of the mapping software. This means that the maps that the system uses could be a couple of years out of date.

It's certainly worth checking out the excellent Pocket GPS World site for more information on your chosen system. As SamC also mentioned, you can also download the excellent and FREE saftey camera database for most models of GPS.

  • Well spotted borgman, that is a fantastic deal. My Halfords gift vouchers arrive today and Halfords have a 7 day 20 mile price promise. So I will buy my Tom Tom One from Halfords tomorrow using my discounted vouchers and then go back later and explain that the local Argos has them in stock (I have checked) for £223.99. They should then give me £56 back which will result in me paying only £196 for my Tom Tom !!!!!!!!! :j Retail price is £279.99 and I have seen them for much more than this.....

    bought mine today :)
the only thing is it does say on the reciept that this product is excluded from their 16 day return policy? Which is a bit of a concern if it doesn't have very good maps. I've previously tried the Garmin i3 which i found had hardly any of the local villages around here :(
  • First you need to have a contract Mobile phone that is due for upgrade. Then upgrade to a Pocket PC Phone eg. T-Mobile MDA or MDA Compact.

Then go on to Ebay and buy a second hand copy of Tom Tom Navigator software. I managed to get a copy of Navigator 3 for £10 but people are also selling navigator 5 (check they are legal first!)

Then on Ebay by a Bluetooth GPS Receiver (About £30 with postage)

and Bobs your uncle... actually bob is my uncle but that is another story.

I pay £28 per month for my T-Mobile contract and the phone /pda was free.

This might sound daft but is a cigar lighter the same as a cigarette lighter?and is that all thats needed to recharge the tomtom one unit as you are driving? and does that mean you can't recharge it when your not driving aswell?

My daughters at uni with her car at the moment so I cant check, besides I wouldnt know what the heck I'd be looking for but I found the owners handbook of her citroen saxo mischief and it says cigar lighter so do you think the tomtom one would be suitable then?
    Thanx

  • Cigar lighter is the same as cigarette lighter, there is only one type. Some are still live when you are not driving but i would advise against leaving the TomTom unit in the car when she is not there anyway, i am assuming now that TomTom are portable units.
    WHOOOOSHHHHHHHHH……..
    Blimey what was that ?
    That was your life mate
Oh I wasn’t quite ready can I have another go ?
Sorry mate only one per person.

Surely £223 for the TomTom One is a mis-price? The cheapest I've seen it is £259 inc a £20 off voucher at Dixons. That really is a bargain, and in stock my local Argos. Shame I don't need one!!
