as said above no maps are completly up to date as it takes time to produce the new data and new roads(housing estates) are springing up all the time .i have both tt3 & tt5 maps on a pda based sat nav(recommended).
tt3 is fine 98% of the time even though its a couple of years old and tt5 increases that to about 99% even on country lanes.no maps will be perfect and never will be,all u can do is get the latest version
tom tom maps are not perfect but seem better than most.

Just picked up one of these.
I had an iCN 510 from Tesco's at £228 but got a refund yesterday.
I spotted this today in Staples and snapped one up. Their current leaflet advertises it at £319 as a "Great Price" so £249 seems like a steal!0 -

Hi
Hope someone can advise on this one!
I have the tomtom 5 on a Ipaq RX3715 with tomtom bluetooth receiver. It is fantastic and very reliable. The only problem is that when navigating via postcodes I put the postcode in but it just sends me to the town/city page, I have to then choose the town and choose the street and number!!! I was under the impression that if i put a postcode in then ithat would be all! or am I mistaken.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I went into my Big W today, which has now been called woolworths again for unknown reasons.
Well i was looking at satnavs there and they had the Tom tom one, only box`s mind,as when i enquired the manager told me they were £279,but came up as out of stock.Reason being,he thinks that they have not been released yet,to which i assumed the same!
They must be on the way tho,as the box was tom tom one, with the new slimmer design, but did expect it to be cheaper,to be more competitive.
Also asked about the Garmin i3,which came up as £199,cheaper else where, but he told me they are being heavily discounted, from anytime sunday 27th nov, with at least £50 off making the cheapest satnav £150,which could turn out to be even cheaper if he is right!0 -
The_Major wrote:I have found this thread really useful, thank you to all contributors. I was prompted by this weeks Aldi sale of the Medion navigator. My Dad bought this last time it was on offer and he has been really impressed. I looked into the Navman 320 and the Garmin I3 as a result of this thread and visited Halfords for some "expert" advice. I was told that the Navman does not have the Points of Interest facility and so one cannot download info such as speed camera locations, National Trust house etc etc. The Garmin I3 received a slating, when he used it recently it lost the satellites on several occasions and more importantly when a road he was told to turn into was closed, the Garmin did not re-calculate the route, it just kept saying "turn around". For me this is a big no-no, I want dynamic route calculation (as it is called). The Aldi Medion also does not have POI. My decision is to buy a Tom Tom Go 300 which is apparantly a very good system. It costs £349 at Halfords but only £299 at Comet/Currys/Dixons. By using a link I can get £25 off at Dixons and therefore pay only £275 - a bargain! Certainly worth the £50 extra compared to the Aldi Medion and I think worth the extra cash compared to the Garmin and Navman. Cheapest is not always best! Hope this is of help to anyone else looking at Sat Nav.0

Go to the 'Navigate To' screen, but instead of clicking 'Address' click the arrow to take you to the next screen of options. Click on 'Postcode'. All you will need to do now is enter the full postcode (no spaces) and the house number.0 -
DavidF wrote:Hi mate just like to point out that i bought the Aldi sat nav last week and came home and installed POI Warner (Which is a points of intrest program used by all of the sat nav versions) POI Warner cost £25 to register and you get free speed camera updates ect. Reall good it has more poi's than i could possibly mention. Just do a google search for POI Warner.
or if you want free poi software i can recommend this one
http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/POIEdit2-install.php
just follow the instructions,it has all the poi,s on the pocketgpsworld database with speed cameras etc which are updated every month for free.
make sure u have checkpoint or equivelant installed(also free) so u can get the poi,s to show on your pda sat nav.0 -
I purchased a Navman icn320 from PC World about 10 days ago. I have since had it changed 3 times as all I was getting was 'waiting for GPS'. Everytime I had it changed, I performed a 'factory re-set' which worked, but after turning it back on, guess what - 'waiting for GPS'.
I was becoming stressed out and ready to throw it out of the car until I found that if I held the sat nav out of the car the signal would then lock on, and theN attach to windscreen it was OK. I have to perform this stupid task every time I want to use the nNavman.
Clearly there was`a problem with the windscreen. But I have neither a heated front windscreen or tinted windows.
PC World suggested I upgrade to a TOM TOM but this was expensive, and I was not convinced the problem would go away.
I have now purchased an attena through ebay at £18, and hope this will cure the problem.
I only have a Renault Laguna, has anybody else encountered this problem?????Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
Most Renaults (as well as some peugeots, vauxhalls, citroens etc) have a special metal film in them which is supposed to stop the heat from radiating into the car, but as a side effect will screen gps signals. The antenna will work, just put it either on the back screen, or by one of the side windows, that should do the trick, or there may be a small area of the front screen which hasn't been coated.
