I love the Garmin, but does anyone know how to force it to show a motorway route rather than the quickest or shortest main road route?0

I had a 30% off voucher from Empire Stores Catalogue so thought I'd order the Tomtom as its shown on thier site. It doesnt say which tomtom it actualy is and enquiries to them got me nowhere so I ordered it anyway and thought I'd send it back if it's not suitable. Its showing as £499 but with the 30% discount I thought it would prob be a reasonable price and save me having to pay out cash for it as I'd pay it monthly to the catalogue.
Its now arrived and it's not the TomTom 500 or 700 that it shows in the picture, It's actualy a TomTom 5, HP model RZ1710 and still at £499 they didn't take the 30% discount off but if I ring they hopefully should adjust that but what I want to know is is it worth it? and what is the difference between the TomTOM 500 and this RZ1710
I'm looking for one for my Daughter and want one that has a good signal easy to use postcode and address planning and prob speed camera thing ect. Only thing that was bothering me about the tomtom 500 is that the customers services have got a bad reputation but they seem to be the most easy to useThanx

terryrichards wrote:I have to recommend 2 stand alone GPS Sat Nav systems and 2 PDA sat Nav systems for the sales and delivery guys at work. From reading about 20 pages I think everybody agrees that the tom tom 300 or 500 is a safe one to recommend?
I need help with what PDA. A friend has said get the HP Ipaq. A couple of things I picked up from the site is that I would like it to have a 7 digit post code search and a built in antenna. So any ideas. Price is not the only consideration. Don't mind paying a bit extra. Its me going to get the hassle if there are any problems. Any ideas? or can anybody sum up the 28 pages
if price is not the main concern your right to recommend the tom tom 300/500,bit expensive(get the 300 unless u realy need bluetooth phone capability) but very quick & easy to use.
i would recommend a mitac mio 168 pda or one off its many clones.
use this with the tom tom 5 software which has the 7 digit post code search and the mapping is as new as anything avalable.i have this system and its excellent.not the cheapest but as they say u get what u pay for.

as a driver myself make sure you recommend one with a decent size screen 3"+ should do fine(as they say size matters)some are only 1.7".

hi there
see the link below for the true price of the rz1710
http://tofftech.com/index.html?display=product_details&type=product&id=40390
not quite £499:eek:
the rz is a pda and therefore completley different to the tom tom go which is purely a sat nav unit.the tom tom will be easier to set up and use but the pda will be more flexible(games music internet, etc, etc).depends which suites u best.0 -

Thanx heathern
Well if its that much then I'll definitely send this back because even taking off the 30% its still cheaper to buy elsewhere even if I did want it.
I think prob its best to get a tomtom 500 then coz they seem the easiest and thats what she really needs but its getting one at reasonable price
Has anyone had any experience by way of having to get faults repaired or anything through thier customer services with the tomtom 500? and the screens break easy don't they are they easy and free to get replaced?Thanx

hi lady
have u considered the tom tom 300,bit more reasonable price, the 500 has a faster processer and u can set it up with your mobile phone(bluotooth capable)but otherwise does the same things as the 500.
i managed to get a 500 for the old man for £319 when argos had them misspriced but thats gone now

dont know about the broken screens and poor service though his seems well built and hes not technical at all yet got his head around it in minutes, its much simpler than my mitac mio pda set up but the pda suits me as i like fiddling about with technology.

Just got myself a Gizmondo with Navigator 2006 CoPilot Sat nav software for £199 from https://www.gizmondo.co.uk.
Great looking piece of kit, which in addition to be a Sat Nav also plays music, plays movies, is a camera, a games console and can be used for sending SMS and MMS as it has a built-in SIM card.
As its totally portable it can be used when walking or cycling.
This thing is just unbelievable value. Take a look for yourself.
I'm very pleased with my purchase.Val0 -
Hiya Everyone,
After the nightmare I had trying to get one off of Flea Bay   , I have actually ordered a Brand New Navigon Unit from Germany, comes with all the bells and whistles @ 299 euro's (£203) which is a considerable saving on the prices here for the same unit, the only thing is the postage wait..0 -

You'd be surprised at how quick postage from Germany is, I have purchased quite a lot of stuff from there and never waited more than 2 days for delivery, Infact it has often been quicker than stuff i have had delivered from the UK.0
