Does anyone know
Is the tomtom one better then the tomtom 300 and 500? and is the tom tom one just as easy to use straight away? whats the differences?
Does it have speed camera warnings and points of interest and can you update maps from the internet? And is it good value for money do you think?Thanx

As you will see from my earlier post on this thread, I had decided to go for the Go 300, however as I was about to purchase from Dixons for £275 when I noticed that prices were dropping, this was caused by the introduction of the Tomtom One. Having read a variety of reviews there seems to be only a few differences. These links highlight the spec of the 2 models:
TomTom One Spec
TomTom Go 300 Spec
Essentially the One is slimmer and utilises new chip technology and a faster processor providing you with a better service. However the One also has a shorter battery life of about 2-3 hours which could be a problem if you are on a long drive and have forgotten your in car charger! I am heading towards the One as it is the newer model. Best price I have found so far for the One is £279 (incl p+p) from various online retailers. Can anyone find them cheaper?0 -
I'm thinking of the TomTom ONE as well - as well as price does anyone know if any particular stores offer a no quibble money back guarantee if it's not suitable?0

It says you can charge it as your driving on one site is that right? But I don't think my daughter has a cigarette lighter in her car so how would she do that or is it not possible? Are they ordinary rechargable batteries so you could take a spare pre charged set too?
It also says that you get one months free to tom tom plus services allowing you to dl tomtom city maps, does that mean they arent already on there then? and do you think this 32 mb sd card is big enough to take updates or would it be likely to have to buy a bigger one and if so how do you get the data off the 32mb one to the new bigger ine is that easy to do?
Cant see anything aboit points of interest or speed camara warnings though so it prob does have that then.Thanx

If you don't have a cigarette lighter then you would need to install something to get power to the unit - or possibly buy a charger to plug into the mains.
I'm not sure about the city maps - for the UK they wouldn't be any different than those already loaded from what I have heard. I'm not sure if they let you download foreign city maps as part of this service.
Depending on what extras you add you may need a bigger card.
I think POI (including speed cameras) would be uploaded in the normal way via the USB cable.0 -
Martin this are available in ARGOS for £169 . John0

The price of the I3 has been up and down so much at Argos. They seem to reduce it each weekend. Interestingly the internet doesn't say that this is excluded from the 16 day but in store on the machines it does...0

Hi,
I'm looking for a Bluetooth SatNav unit that I can use with my PDA. I have the software, just looking for the hardware.
Anyone know of any bargain?0 -
Halfords have now dropped their prices on Sat Nav. You can see that Tomtom One is now available and at £279.99 equals the best deal around. As a web offer you can still walk into the store if it all goes wrong. Probably a safer bet than some of the online stores. Garmin I3 is down to £169.99 and Navman ICN 320 to £164.99
I cannot find any online codes or vouchers for Halfords to get an even better deal - can anyone help?
LadyK - Batteries are Lithium Ion batteries and you could probably buy a spare but may not be cheap. Alternatively buy a mains charger and don't go on journeys that last over 3 hours.....or buy a new car (not quite in the moneysaving principle though).
UK maps are already pre-loaded, the free month to tomtom services is an additional thing. Points of interest including speed camara warnings can be downloaded for free from sites previously mentioned in this thread. The 32MB card should be enough, but it depends on how much POI and extra mapping you download. But if not then buy a bigger one, they don't cost much these days. Transferring data is easy and done via USB cable and your computer.
Happy hunting...

Davey_s2 wrote:Most Renaults (as well as some peugeots, vauxhalls, citroens etc) have a special metal film in them which is supposed to stop the heat from radiating into the car, but as a side effect will screen gps signals. The antenna will work, just put it either on the back screen, or by one of the side windows, that should do the trick, or there may be a small area of the front screen which hasn't been coated.

I have a Garmin i3 street pilot on my Renault Megane windscreen. Never had any problems with picking up a signal. In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
