I've spent the afternoon trying to analyse the reasons that I'm overweight (apart from the obvious one of eating too much  )
I have a real fear of running out of groceries, in particular food. I go shopping for milk, and come home £100 or more worse off. I know we have so much food in, we dont really have to shop for ages, apart from fresh stuff. It's that bad that I'm wondering if we really struggled when I was a kid. I know we didnt have much money, but wonder if was more than that. I have no-one to ask, so will never know
I also really struggle to control portions. I know on SW you dont really have to, but I feel I should be eating lots less than I do
What do you guys think? Am I talking through my arris
My upbringing was really different to most of you, we wernt poor, both my parents had really successfull careers with good wages so i cant blame my food problems on being poor.
My problem occurs because my mam and dad strongly believed in 3 meals a day and nothing else, we had cereal for breakfast, soup (homemade) with bread or sandwiches for lunch and a full cooked dinner at tea time (chips were unheard of) and that was it, we wernt allowed to eat between meals or have sweets/chocolate incase it ruined our appetite, dessert was a piece of fruit from the fruit bowl.
I was one of the rare kids that loved school dinners, mainly because it was so different from home food and came with a dessert with custard.
i also had a friend whos parents were really poor and all they ate were eggs and chips with the odd tin of beans and toast for breakfast, i used to love the days when i visited her just like my friend loved the days she visited me as she loved roast dinners but never had them at home.
So i believe my problems come from rebelling against the food of my youth and eating what i wanted when i wanted it, it got to a point tho that i was still doing a full shop even tho i couldnt get it in my freezer, fridge or cupboards, now tho i shop everyday for what we are having for tea, that way i can plan my meals and save money too although i do have lots of meal makers still in the freezer for the days i cant get out.
This has been a really good discussion i have really enjoyed reading it all.DFW red and green memberDoing my best to lose weight and save money0 -

Hey all,
Seems like you've all had a bit of a reflective weekend! Not sure I have much to add, my family were definitely not well off when i was growing up, but wouldn't say we ever went without food either! My mum has no idea on how to control portions, so one plate served by her, could always have fed 2 possibly 3 people, and when we were younger, she certainly wasn't as educated on food as she is now, we quite often had pie, beans and chips for tea or that kind of thing. Rather than anything psychological, for me I think it's more just been a case of trying to break old habits, and replace them with better ones!
Anyway - weigh in day for me, and I lost 2lbs. ALthough this is quite a good loss for me, I'm actually a wee bit disappointed in myself! I was extremely good last week, and by Friday was weighing 3lbs lighter, but then on Saturday (after being very good all day), I tucked into a (large) portion of fried rice, and 5 chocolate hob knobs when I got home! I just about died, when I realised the Hob Knobs were 5 syns each!
Anyway - I've still lost, so suppose that's the main thing! It's just onwards and upwards from here! Once again!! Got a big valentines night planned on Friday (OH working Saturday), so I'll have to be extra good the rest of the week to make up for it!!
Have a good Monday everyone

Weekly Weigh In Well after missing weigh in last week due to the snow and guessing a STS I got weighed at class today and was horrified to have put on 5.5 lbs
I have no one to blame but myself, I have been enjoying EE so much that I "forgot" I was on a diet and didn't bother counting the little extra that creeped into my daily eating. That extra glob of mayonnaise on a sandwich, big glob of ketchup with SW chips, not measuring my cheese or my milk in my HEA, forgetting to count the s yns in a jar of sauce (split between 4 of us so it can't be many - yea right - not!) handful of crisps off my husbands plates, chicken nugget from daughters plate... well it just goes on and on.
Hopefully I am smart enough to learn from this and have given myself a stern talking to. I have to learn that I can not eat whatever and whenever I want and get away with it.:o
This week I will write everything down, and I mean everything - I will be an :A, and see how I get on.
Love

hi everyone,
well, I didn't get chance to check in with you all over the weekend, but lost 1.5 pounds at my weigh in on saturday morning. I was pleased with that, but was hoping for a bit more (naughty mid week scales check said it was 2.5 pounds!).
So now I have got my half stone award (total weight loss 7.5 pounds). Like Burlesque babe, I am going on holiday in 7 weeks and want to lose another half a stone by then. I will really feel like I'm getting somewhere then. So, BB, Can I join you in your challenge? Maybe we can spur each other on.
I could do with a bit of spurring on to be honest - I had a 'treat day' on saturday (sticky toffee pudding, bag of crisps and half a bottle of wine anyone?), then pudding yesterday, but today is going Ok and I am determined to be good for the rest of the week.
So, extra easy plan for today:
Breakfast - nestle clusters and milk (a and B choice)
morning snack - huge fruit salad - free
Lunch - ham roll (6 syns for roll, 1 syn for tsp flora light, free ham) and tuna with salad cream (needed using up in the fridge) (tuna - free, light salad cream - 1/2 syn)
afternoon snack - mullerlight - free
Tea - SW HM breaded plaice and chips, minted mushy peas. All free except breadcrumbs on fish (3 syns) and poss ketchup - low sugar and salt one is 1/2 syn for 2 tbsp.
So, that should get me going on the right track!
Hope everyone else is OK.

Marion,
Don't worry too much about your gain - It sounds like you have a plan to keep going and losing weight and I'm sure it will come off soon enough. Writing everythIng down will help (I also cheat too much if I don't write it down!).
The important thing is perseverance. "We will get there, we will get there, we will get there.... "

I think some of us are losing it a bit on how easy they think EE is.
Looking at your menu above Ali, i cant see any super free foods on any of your meals, EE is about having a 3rd of your plate original a 3rd green and a 3rd superfree foods according to consultant31. Please correct and forgive me Ali if you just havnt wrote all your veg down.
I would hate to think peoples losses arnt as great as they could be because they are not following the plan as it should be followed.
Just a thought anyway.DFW red and green memberDoing my best to lose weight and save money0 -
consultant31 wrote: »BB, it could be the type of food you choose that makes you feel bloated. Have you tried having original (red) days for a change? There are a few of my members who struggle with green days - though you may love the food, it doesn't love you back
If, like me, you can't do red days, may I suggest that you up your water consumption to a minimum of 2½ litres as that may help to take away the bloatedness.
Also try to vary what you have. Variety can be a key to weight loss and it helps to ensure you get all the nutrients you need. Don't have the same food twice in a day (like the potato) and try to have different foods from one day to the next (hope that makes sense).
Hi consultant - red days do suit me more (from my many SW journeys over the years  ) but I end up getting bored with lots of meat and it also gets expensive. Green days suit my eating style but not my metabolism!
I do need to drink more water, that's true, I've never been much of a drinker (well, non-alcoholic at any rate!)
I do vary foods (I often post my foods) but it's often a case of what's in the house at the time, I'm on an incredibly tight budget and if (say) the pasta n sauces are gone, or I'm out of rice, then it's what is still in the house. If every choice of SW were available at any one time, I'd find it a lot easier...........I'd also be bankrupt but hey, i'd be slim! :rotfl:
Food today:
b: muller and banana
l: SW wedges and beans with mozzarella (2x HE)
d: bolognaise and pasta
syns - 3x digestive bars at 5 syns each."Stay Wonky":D

hi northern lass,
Thanks for your comments. You're right - there aren't any superfree foods in my meals, though my snacks have been superfree. Its a bit of an unusual lunch for me - normally it would be much more balanced. I tend to eat smaller amounts but more frequently. If i don't have something every 3 hours I get very ratty  . So, I guess while someone else might have the fruit salad at lunchtime, I had mine mid morning.
My understanding of EE is slightly different in that I haven't been told by my consultant that 1/3 of the plate must be red and 1/3 green (it can be whatever mix you like), but I have been told that SW advise that we should have 1/3 as superfree foods. Its definitely worth thinking about - thank you.
Perhaps if i have some berries on my cereal at breakfast time that would be a good start. And normally dinner would have superfree veg with it, eg shperherds pie (with carrots onions and mushrooms in the mince sauce) and brocolli / carrots; or chicken and aubergine curry with rice. That kind of thing.
Anyway, i will give it some thought, and any tips on including superfree foods at lucnhtime would be gratefully recieved!
Thanks,
AliNot Buying It 20150
