Good morning everyone - pouring of rain here but hoping it stops before my walk in the park. I feel like the postman sometimes - come rain, sleet or snow I have to make my round - only mine is in the park! And don't think Charlie would let me out of it either - he seems to have a built in clock and if I'm not stirring my stumps by quarter to ten he starts nudging me!

I made the rhubarb rice for breakfast this morning - I think it was the best one yet! I used frozen rhubarb and for the amount I used the syns would have been negligible - about 1/4 of a syn, so I won't count it:p

Breakfast - rhubarb rice and 2 nectarines - (free)
Lunch - mushroom and onion omelette, pear (free)
Dinner - pork chops cooked in a home made spicy sauce made SW style and served on a bed of wholewheat penne, sprinkled with grated parmeson (free+hea)
Snacks - scan bran with fruit and yogurt (heb)

    Have a good one!
    Love
    Marion

Rugbymum - did I read somewhere that you make your own bread? If so, post the recipe and we should be able to syn it for you, or using the following, divide by the number of slices and you can syn it fairly easily.

White (plain) flour is 5 syns per 28gms
Dried yeast is 2½ syns per 28gms
Butter (think this is optional in breadmaking) 10½ per 28gms
S/S milk from HEA perhaps or 7½ syns per 280 mls

If I've missed something give a yell and will have a look in the food directory for you.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

Thanks for that, I can work out how much the whole loaf is but how do you take into account uneven rising, smaller slices at the end, bigger ones in the middle, thickness as you're slicing etc.
    But knock yourself out :D
2kg flour - type depends on mood
    28g dried yeast
    8 tbsp olive oil
    water
I divide the dough into 4 (no I don't weigh it), shape and leave it alone! Eventually I remember it has to go in the oven! Hence the occasionally odd shaped loaves!

well, I'm quite pleased! Week 3 weigh in (the week my body usually slows down) and I've lost another 4 pounds! That's 12 pound in 3 weeks!

It's also star week so I'm even more chuffed.

I'm absolutely convinced that the key is eating consciously and also stopping when I feel full - which happens much earlier when eating consciously!. i'm eating a much, much smaller portion at dinner time. I've done it all on EE and although it is still incredibly early days (another 138 pounds to go!) I am really hoping this time is MY time to lose the weight permanently.

I think I need to start eating lunch away from my PC. I eat lunch (literally eating it as I type!) at home as I work part time and I definitely don't eat that consciously.

So, next stage for me is to try to start eating some lunches away from the PC.

I'm not even going to dare think I could do 2 pounds next week and lose a stone in my first month, but my fingers are quietly crossed.

I'm so glad EE is working for you, it's stories like that that are encouraging me to try a whole week (still a fraidy cat on that one!).

:TWell done on all WI so far this week :T

Second week on EE for me and a further 3lb loss which I am happy about as that puts me lower then my pre-xmas weight. Actually between myself, mum and OH we lost 8lbs on EE so I would really recommend giving it a go if you haven't done so already :)

Can anyone help with the "abuse of free foods" thing?
Consultant has mentioned it a couple of times. Is it using free foods to make norty stuff, or am I missing the point?
For example, I just made some raspberry mousse with sugar free jelly, egg whites, mushed raspberries, fromage frais and a bit of sweetner. 4 portions @ 0.5 syns each. Would this be an abuse of free foods?
A friend passed on a recipe for "cake" made with ground up chick peas, eggs, sweetner & almond extract. Would that count?
I though my mousse was just being inventive, although I'm a bit dubious about the second one (tasted a bit odd)!

ground up chick peas is classed as abuse of free food. Basically it's about making something which is free into something easier to eat lots of and not really notice (sorry, not a good explanation!)

erm........ok........if you squeezed 5 oranges into a glass of juice and drank it, that wouldn't be free because the thinking is you wouldn't eat 5 oranges one after the other and the body isn't processing the food in the same way so if you made a smoothie from strawberries, bananas, apples, oranges etc in the morning, they would have to be synned because you were pureeing them.

Same for the chick peas. Grind up (say) 6 ounces and you'd possibly eat a lot more of it than if you were given a plate of 6 ounces of chick peas and again, the body isn't processing the food in the same way.

I would say the mousse is fine - the SW mag. has an almost identical recipe in this month, but apparently the cake is seen as abuse of free food.

I'm sure consultant will give a much more detailed explanation!
