    Welcome to the thread Shaz!

Bulgar wheat and couscous are free on green days, but if they are ground, or used as a flour substitute then they are syns. Potatoes and pasta are free on green too, if you keep the skins on the potatoes and eat wholewheat pasta then its more filling and better for you. Quorn mince and pieces are free on both green and original days too. Other quorn products and shops own veggie stuff usually has syns, so double check before buying/eating, just to be sure.

Portion sizes shouldnt be too much of a problem, but if you notice the weightloss slow up later then its something to look at. Snackwise, what do you snack on normally?

so if a food is free can you eat as much as you like anytime or just at meals ?? w/w do a similair option but i always did points...............it worked for me but i get too obsessed with weighing things then have dramatic falls off the wagon ..........hoping this is less restricting

Normally snack on cakes chocolate and crisps..............aaarh i know i know :rotfl: :rotfl:

Dont eat much dairy apart from milk in coffee and dont like yoghurts like fruit though but its so expensive keeping up with the kids never mind extra for me!! i buy 2 bags apples 4 bags bananas and 2 punnets plums a week just for them:eek:

Is all fruit and veg free on both plans i notice tin tomatoes are free but puree isn't?

I would definitely suggest you get hold of the books before attempting it, its quite different from WW.

    Basically you have:

Healthy Extras which are weighed out and vary as to which days you are having. Healthy extra A are milk and cheese and on a green day healthy extra B are meat, poultry, fish, nuts & seeds, cereals and crispbreads, bread, cheese, soup, dried, canned & cooked fruit. You can find a list in the book. The advice is "Make 1 or 2 choices from the A section and 2 choices from the B section every day".

Free foods, which you can eat unlimited amounts of, though wise not to go mad, IE 6 huge plates of pasta a day wouldnt do you any favours lol. On a green day the free foods are: Pasta, rice and grains
    Beans, lentils and pulses
    Very low fat dairy products
Vegetable proteins eg, Quorn and tofu
    Eggs
    All vegetables, including potatoes
    Fresh or frozen fruit
Drinks (list of free ones in book)
Sweeteners (tablet and drop are free, granular they have to be less than 2 cals per tsp)
    Flavourings (herbs, spices and seasonings)
Dressings and accompaniments (List in book)

Again a full list can be food in the food optimising book.

You then have Syns, for anything not covered by the above. You are recommended to have between 5 and 15 syns a day, many people try and stick to 10 a day but dont feel you have to have them if you dont want to.

Off the top of my head, syns for the follwing:
    Curly wurly 6 syns
    Cadbury Freddo 5 syns
Walkers crisps 6.5 syns (25g bag)
Alpen light bar 3 syns (or 2 make a healthy extra B)

Hope that helps, and that I havent missed anything! The best way to make sure you have all the info is to get the books. Could you afford to join the group as a 1 off just to get the pack? You dont have to go back after the 1st visit.

There are some veg that isnt free on an original day, such as peas and sweetcorn, but you can eat then on green. Tinned toms and passata is free on both, but puree has syns. I make lots of pasta sauces with tinned toms, dont miss puree at all.

Shaz, it sounds a bit complicated when you first read about it, but after a few days, you wonder why you were ever worried. It's really easy to follow, and there's loads of choice, so you can have a really varied diet. Good luck. :)

Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches

    hi all...........:o

since my return and name change I've had myhead stuck in the sand and just keep going 'la la laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa' when I see this thread at the top of the tree on DFW..........

I saw a horrible photo of me yesterday that was taken last week when my sister and niece visited. I really do look like the Michelin Man

I was sat thinking last night about how I want to grow old - and then thought - so what the bloody hell are you doing to your body?!

anyway, I need to get my dieting head back on.

    And soon.
