Thank you so much for replying, my overdraft is now with a dca and I no longer have an account with barclays. It wasn't the hugest charge every month, but over a period of a few years, we're talking quite an amount of money, something which I don't seem to have anymore!!

I'm not going to be able to get to the bank, DS1 has seen to that with his teeth, so I shall be writing a letter and sending it recorded.

Does anyone know where it needs to be sent?

    Questions questions....:D

hi the 8% is statutory interest - the amount a court would allow as you've been unlawfully deprived of money. It's calculated on a daily rate basis against each monthly premium paid - the easiest way to calculate how much is due is to take the PPI monthly premium and feed it into the bank charges calculator on the bank charges forum- it'll work it all out for you. As it was 6 years ago this amount will be quite substantial - the older the premium the more interest is applicable
Thanks again, tiggrae! As I don't have the exact figures to hand right now, I took the amount offered, divided it by the number of months and plugged that figure per month into the calculator. As you said, it's not a small amount - almost half again what's been offered!

I think I'll write back, without prejudice, offering to settle the oldest one for what they've offered plus statutory interest, saying that they will, of course, wish to work out the precise figure (but my rough calculations give a figure in the region of £X).

I'll also invite them to reconsider their decision on the other two, prior to me referring the matter to the FoS.

Does giving them 7 days for a final-final response seem fair - or, indeed, sensible?
