Hi all, I was wondering what kind of success people have had with reclaiming loan ppi with HSBC? I've just sent the first letter, called them to confirm they'd received it, which they had and said they'd write within five working days either to say they've resolved the problem or they're looking into it. I took a graduate loan out in 2003. I was only on a 6 month, fixed term employment contract at the time. I've re-read the documents and it says if you are on a contract, it has to have lasted a year or more, which mine obviously didn't. I also was not told I could look elsewhere for cover and that it would assist my application if I took the protection. This isn't on, right?!
Any help, similar stories much appreciated!

Well done and the very best of luck!
Please let us know how you get on - thanks.;)

Hi there Ali
And your right "it is not on" !!!!
You have done the right thing and not sure if you have had the chance to check over at the success thread, there are various successes and I am sure there have also been many success stories involving the HSBC.;)
When you get the chance hun, go and check it out, there are loads of pages though lol......:D .
Hope you win yours back too, but if for some reason your not lucky, in case you recieve a standard fob off letter, please let us know hun, we will then move on to step 2, because there is plenty of fight time to go yet.....:D , keep at them and we will keep is all crossed that you will eventually get through this and get your own back on them..

thanks for the reply, and the encouragement! I've contacted the Abbey as well as I have a loan with them too. Abbey completely made me think it was compulsory (ie told me to 'sign to agree to PPI' on the application documents) so should be able to get that back. I've had a quick look at the other thread (there are thousands of posts!) and people with the same banks seem to have various degrees of success. I was wondering if certain circumstances get quicker responses, or is it just the luck of the drawer?
Thanks again for all your help, Di, posts like these must really encourage people to see their claims through! I'll let you know how I get on.

(oops sorry almost missed answering this), to be honest hunni it could be luck of the draw, then it maybe due to peoples' financial circumstances too), but don't bank on that answer lol.

As far as I am aware it is the institution that sold the loan not who underwrote them, did they tell you how much they were getting in commission to sell that insurance on to the underwriters:D
Hi maxdp
I take on board what your comments. I'm not sure how much they would get to sell insurance but I would assume it would have to be worthwhile to get a good return.0 -
marshallka wrote: »Are they perhaps passing the buck here for the misselling..
Was one under the jurisdiction of the FOS and one not and the one that was not - are they accepting the misselling knowing that you have not got a chance of going to the FOS. When was this loan/PPI??
I always thought that our actual PPI was sold to us by FIrstplus and not by who they told us sold it as the ones that they told us sold it were not under FOS's jurisdiction.
Hi Marshallka,
You're right in what you say.... I think they are passing the buck and are looking for an excuse to get out of this one!0 -
