and i thought this thread was about o2 subsidising the phone by knocking £100 off the price

Can't you still buy the phone and take it home without signing up for contract? (since you activate it @ iTunes and sign up for the contract then?)

yes you can buy the phone and not activate, exactly what ive done! :D
and what can O2 do about it? answer: nothing. i didnt sign a paper contract to say i'd sign their £35 a month minimum contract. ;) :D :rotfl:

so for anyone who wants one but is unsure....

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SIGN UP TO THE CONTRACT. YOU SIMPLY CANCEL THE ACTIVATION PROCESS WHEN IT SHOWS ON ITUNES, THEN RUN ZIPHONE. :D that any clearer?

I'm very tempted but still feel bad about doing it.. They are selling it at 160 expecting you to sign up to the contract, and I feel a bit dishonest about just unlocking it. Don't you think they will be able to track you though through your address on your credit card?

Speaking of which, can this be ordered online?

well, if they do track you, say its a gift for a loved one and they dont know which tariff theyre going to choose yet.
afterall, since you have paid your hard earned for it, why should you have to sign a contract?

thanks, I'm thinking about getting one of these but i was wondering about a few things..

what PAYG sim would be best for the iphone do you think? anyone using one on Orange?

how do you go about accessing the net on a non-O2 iphone?

hi arch_23, my friend is currently running his iphone on orange PAYG, and it works flawlessly!
as far as i know, 2 types of internet access are available, through wifi and edge network access. if you have data roaming, using edge is possible, it doesnt cost as much as it used to and its pretty quick. :)
