T-Mobile won the apple contract in Germany.
O2 won it here.
Orange in France......
etc.
Apple wanted exclusivity in each market , depending on who offered the best kickback they picked there carrier, (although I heard Vodafone told Apple where to go). Depending on if its an upgrade or a new purchase Apple get up to 60% of the line revenue back from the carrier.
Thats on top of you not getting a subsidised phone and having to sign up to pretty poor value contracts minutes and text wise (although made up somewhat by the free web / edge access).
Given it's not exactly been a stunning sales success it was prediced to be you have to wonder if o2 did the right thing, as they had to put in the Edge network hardware too..0 -
I wonder why Apple allowed T-Mobile to subsidise the cost of the handset in Germany but won't allow o2 to do it in the UK?
(You can see from the link posted earlier, the price of the 8gb iPhone ranges from €249 to €99 depending on which tariff is taken - so the network is subsidising the handset cost)0 -

probably fancy marketing, as it said in earlier post to get the phone for the 99 euros(dont know how to do the euro sign, lol) u had to sign up to a tariff which would have cost over 1600 euros, so they probably over inflated that tariff, so they could make it look like u was getting the phone cheaper, and i thought this thread was about o2 subsidising the phone by knocking £100 off the priceTake every day as it comes!!0 -
