  • You're right - we booked on a bed and breakfast basis as we like pottering around various restaurants in the resort in the evening. We did enjoy knowing that after the buzz of the main drag we could return to the Yaiza and sit in the piano bar and chill for the rest of the night!
  • Fantastic thread and im enjoying reading through upto page 13 currently :-)
Was wondering if this question has been asked yet, apologies if its later in the thread.
Im coming to lanzarote, Purto del carmen next month with my two children but im going to be needing a data connection to keep up with study (arhhggg)and the charge from my uk supplier for roaming is unaffordable.
I have looked around the internet but seems there is so many mobile operators that its a little overwhelming, can you suggest one which is good for connection on a PAYG tariff that i can top up locally in shops/newsagents ect.

many thanks cant wait for some sun :-)

    Glad you're enjoying the thread!!

You have a choice... but the 3 most common are Orange, Vodafone and Movistar. You can buy a PAYG sim and then top up in some supermarkets (like Hiperdino), and the shop you bought the sim in of course. I top mine up in an Indian tobacco shop close to me hairdressers in Carmen... so other tobacco shops may do it too. Don't expect the calls to be quite as cheap as Blighty... but they won't break the bank.
You will need a passport to purchase a SIM here as proof of ID too... so don't forget to bring one with you. Head to the Biosfera shopping centre, and go to the ground floor. Vodafone is tucked into a corner on your left as you come down the escalator... and I believe there may be a Movistar there too.

    Have fun love! xxx

No probs - I was online when the notification came through.

No... you can't buy it in Blighty before you come... it has to be Spanish Vodafone, Spanish Orange, or Spanish Movistar - or you'll get roaming wotsits.

You only need the passport to buy... not to top up.

They are used to English speaking people coming into the shops... but possibly be prepared to point at your phone and use hand signals to get your point across.

Hi arrived back from Playa Blanca, on Tuesday evening, had a fab time. Absolutely loved the beach and we went to the market on Saturday and had a lovely mooch around the shops and the children loved looking at the fish by the marina. We stopped by to talk to the parrots on the wall, how lovely they are.

Can't wait to go back again.
