Well the title says it all really.....

We have two girls aged 4 and 3 who keep coming back from school with Nits.

We've already given them both bob cuts to make it easier to clear them (which now seems to be on a weekly basis) but the worst thing is our 7 month old baby boy has now got them....now he has LOT of hair for a 7 month old (Its an Indian thing!) but he's incredibly cute and the Wife and I are seriously contemplating shaving his head just to keep the nits at bay...this is what got the Wife crying just now....

We do the treatments on our girls but we cant do much for him except for looking thrugh his hair literally with the fine tooth nit comb so i wanted to ask your advice really. I want to exhaust all the options fisrrt as shaving his head really is a last resort :-(

    Thanks in advance.

Loads of conditioner and a metal 'Nit free' comb from the chemist which costs about £10 but worth every penny.... repeat couple of times a week until u are sure they are gone and then keep checking to catch early.
It is no fun but seems part of school life unfortunately.

I'm not sure if it works but I read somewhere once that white hair conditioner has something in it which kills the nits. I'm sure this wouldn't hurt the baby. I'd slather it on and then comb through. Another thing I read (on here) was that tea-tree oil based shampoo/conditioner repels the nits (again not sure if it works). Worth a try though?

To help prevent them again have you contacted the school to see if they are addressing the problem as obviously it is recurring regularly.
Also... if memory serves then nits tend to prefer nice clean hair... it might be worth reducing the amount of times you wash your kids hair to see if you can prevent re-infestation? Oh and boilwash all their bedding and the actual pillows too just in case... :) I sympathise as I HATE nits and I have about 3 foot of hair and I'd cry A LOT if I had to cut it...

    Good luck
