It annoys me when i walk to school in the mornings behind girls that have their hair down cos the parents have been advised to keep hair tied back,
I have 3 girls that used to have longhair and they now have bobs just to help me keep on top of those bu99ers!!0 -
Resurecting it again!
Just read your comment about the hair being tied back. I always used to send DD with it tied back but having read around about nits I found the advice said to keep hair loose so that the nits couldn't grip on so easily. Not sure which is working tbh. I cut DD's hair short and I find I don't recognize her with a bob and fringe as she always had her hair down her back.!

Nits seem to be becoming really common again and I think there are getting even harder to treat as not everyone uses chemical lotions correctly and rather thank killing the !!!!!!s its making them mutant, super strong giant nits!!!
My DD has picked them up from school 4 times in the last 3 months:mad: I always condition and comb which always gets rid but weeks later when I check her there back and there big so theres obviously someone who she plays with or sits very close to that hasnt been treated!! Its very traumatic for DD as she feels embarrassed by it and the school wont do a damn thing about it due to bloody Political Correctness!! Wot about public health!!
Im almost tempted to ask DD if anyone scratches there head a lot and have a strong word with the mother myself........0 -
i gave up using treatments on my daughters as i don't actually belive they are effective , plus who in their right mind would want to put an insecticide on skin right next to the brain and used a fine nit comd made by derbac and plenty of conditioner ,and a really bright light or sunlight , it make take a few nights to get rid of all the eggs but keep going until you don't catch anything for a couple of nights0

we have this problem as well, see one or two on the youngest, go to the school, and they say sorry cant do anything, i did ask them to write a little note for the other kids to take home, but they said they cant do that anymore.
so I have to condition and comb once a week, always on a sunday night.
its not to bad but with the five of us, we all have long hair, so its a real paiin. watching the childrens xmas play last week, I just sat there and watched loads of kids scratching, I really felt like standing up and shouting, can you please comb your kids during the christams holidays!
I am also surprised at the amount of mums and dads i speak to who all say the same thing, oh we check our kids regular, and I say do you check yourself? and they look at me as if i am daft, none of them think parents can catch them as well. lol
maybe we can start a 'bring the nit nurse back' club?nothing is impossible, just maybe difficult.0 -
As a Health Visitor for over 20 years and with 3 children of my own my best advice is to avoid costly chemicals and wet comb the hair-daily whilst infested and every other day in between to stop a problem developing again. This really does work-yes it's time greedy but combing the conditioner through with a very fine comb removes the live lice. As for the nits-these are empty egg cases and although unsightly they don't cause reinfestation. The best way to remove nits and live eggs: use the tooth comb and comb upwards from underneath the hair. The lice are actually on the scalp when they glue the egg to the hair shaft,so that combing from underneath actually cathes the part that sticks out-and they pop off quite easily. Some people swear by saking the hair in vinegar to help loosen the eggs but I haven't found that necessary and the smell is horrid! When I was unwell in February this year I stopped the wet combing of my 6 year old for a while as I hadn't got the energy-and yes he picked up the beggers again.Just over 2 weeks later he was clear, and although the rest of the class kept getting reinfested as one little girl wasn't cleared (had hair down to her waist and her mum said her hair was impossible to comb)he didn't as I was combing regularly-and any 'visitors' were being removed (still are!)Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0

I got so fed up with my DD going to school with scuzzy kids who's parents couldn't be @rsed to treat them that I moved her to another school. She hasn't had them since.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

I'm getting really fed up with these too (can't think of anyone who isn't!). I've made a point of combing my 2 every Sunday now and carrying on every day if I find anything.
My son and daughter went all through infant school without having them but picked them up a few years ago while on holiday in Lanzarote when my daughter had one of those braids put in - that was the first time i'd ever seen them.
I got rid of them but seem to have been prone to them ever since - grrrrr!
My son's 13 and daughter's 10, i'm hoping once she goes to senior school in September they'll stop but i'm not sure if that theory will work.
Son has them at the moment and i'm considering treating all 4 of us with a chemical treatment on Friday when they finish school so hopefully we'll at least have the Christmas break free of them!
Does anyone have any recommendations of a good chemical treatment or home treatment or would i be better just combing through?0 -
When my 2 dd's were at primary school nits were a real problem, both had very thick waist lenth hair and eldest was also very curly.
Over the years I have tried every technic available the only thing that worked was the nitty gritty comb.:j
I had tried animal flea combs (odd but not bad), all sorts of concoctions and
spent many, many hours wet combing.
I am glad they are now older but be warned still check as you just never know.0 -
i dont know if this is true or not and would be very embarassed if i turned up with my nit and they said no.:o
This made me > :rotfl:
Bless you.:D
My girl had nits earlier this year which she kindly shared with me. I got obsessed and combed our hair out 3 times a day, lol. Even then, one must have escaped detection cos they were back a week later! We tried everything on the market but really the best thing was loads of tea tree conditioner and wet combing.
I sympathise.
(promise me you wont go to Superdrug with a nit though?)
