I used to use an ordinary nit comb, but bought a nitty gritty comb a couple of weeks ago, couldnt believe it. My daughter had eggs in her hair for ages that a normal nit comb wouldnt remove but using the nitty gritty comb they have all gone. Just as well as she was a bridesmaid on Saturday!“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I am glad that the orginal post was some help to some people. There are obviously some more understanding doctors out there. Sorry about orginal rant-part embrassement-I would normally have gone out and purchased a comb, and had already done so, but had spotted on this great site that one could be obtained via doctors presciption and as I mentioned our orginal nitty gritty comb had only got misplaced by our 4 year old so was reluctunt to purchase another. I was embrassed by doctors reception making such a loud thing of my request and then being turned down on top.
Anyhow we purchased another as I couldn't bring myself to try again. Little b*****rs are under control and daughter clear again for time being. We now have a spare comb as obviously our 4 year old found the orginal as soon as another bought. The nitty gritty combs really are invaluable and good luck to anyone trying to get one on prescription. If anyone needs anymore info or application letter for doctors it can be found on https://www.nittygritty.co.uk. Beware there is a rather unappealing picture of an upclose headlice on home page. Prepare to itch.0 -
just found them in my sons hair, have treated him, but what I'd like to know is do they live on towels, bedding, etc.... have washed towels. Last time he had them, i didnt, am hoping same this time, also which is the best solution to use? I have some tea tree stuff, but needs to be left on all night, which is a pain!!0

I found the best way was lots of conditioner and lice comb, go through hair every night for a fortnight and it really works........ You have to do it for this long so you pick up all the maturing pregnant female lice......... Hardest bit is getting kids to stay still long enough but I used to do it while they were in bath......0

yes, ive done that, just now in bath, hes very good, kept still, bless!!0

I agree, conditioner and nit comb is best. I do it every other night for at least two weeks.0

Actually, last year, when he had them, the doctor refused to give me any lotion, saying its chemicals, and she dont agree with them, think for me though, if i've got them, a lotion is needed as i have long hair!0

I find this curious, when I was a school we never got nits, we even had the nit nurse round every now and again but I don't think that happens now. My brothers kid was always getting them so now he has his head shaved. What has changed?Nothing to see here, move along.0

I used to enjoy doing the conditioner in bath method cos I got to have nice chats with kids as well, and the satisfaction of flushing lice down sink was great x0

I did the conditioner thing and doses of neat tea tree- apply at the nape area cos thats where nits prefer to be- warmest part of head- DS had them once and I just picked the bu**ers out mostly!
