I once sat next to a little girl at the school fair. She had long hair that was loose. Her mum was stroking her hair while she sat next to her. As I looked at the girl I could see TONS of eggs in the poor things hair. They were so visible she must have had headlice for such a long time. I couldnt believe her mum couldnt see them! I sat there not sure whether to say anything or not. It did cross my mind maybe she doesnt know what they are!
I think parents who deliberatly leave their kids to suffer with headlice should be charged with neglect but I don't know whether the mum in this case was even aware of how bad her poor little girls hair was!
She was a lovely girl too! She must have been itching like mad!

One of the kids in my youngest daughter's nursery class is collected by her auntie a couple of days a week. I've been next in the queue twice now, and can clearly see eggs in the woman's hair. There's no hope of keeping the kids clear when the adults won't deal with their own, they just keep infecting the kids.

Yes, I know I should tell her, but how the hell do you start THAT conversation?

Tea tree is very good for head lice, although apparantly it's effect wears off after lots of applications!

Also conditioner, condition your daughter's hair everytime you wash it, apparantly the poor nits will just slide merrily off her hair that way!

    Hope you've got/get it sorted :-)

you could say ' oy, your hair is full of nits woman!!!'

seriously though, if you know the woman well enough, just take her aside and explain you've noticed- surely its better coming nicely from someone she knows then from someone who she doesnt know who is completely tactless and cruel and will say the above or similar???
if you dont know her, speak to the mum/dad of the kid that she picks up if you know them and ask them to tell her
if you dont know them either, just keep your daughter as far away as possible.

You can get the combs from Sally Hair and Beauty Supplies ( check locations on yell.com), they are about £10 but are definetly worth it. They also sell the nitty gritty lotion, but the comb is amazing, just use it with tea-trea conditioner
    £2 Savers club £0/£150
    1p a day £/

Hi, I bought his kit a while ago. http://www.nits.net/products_kit.cfm

You get 4 combs with it. The purple one has managed to get rid off most off those horrid white empty cases, and using it 3 times a week the nits are gone.

That's the trouble Donna - I DON'T know her at all - she totally blanks me even when I say hello, so I don't imagine it would go down too well!

Don't forget to apply a styling product after washing the hair. The nits "don't like dirty hair". If the hair shaft is coated with a gel or mousse the nits can't grip so well.
