Hmm most hairdressers would refuse to cut hair thats infested.

Im sorry but if this was me I would make a formal complaint against the work experience girl. Yes she may not be there anymore but she should get a terrible report from the hairdressers. She has caused terrible problems for your neice (from the sounds of it) and it should be sorted. I hope that your neice is ok :)

And a hairdressers that doesnt tell you that you have nits? Thats wrong, even if it was one. They should definately tell you or someone!

in this day and age is it not asking too much for schools and pre-schools to have a policy of dealing with h/l , i can only remember 1 case in all my years at school , now it seems to be a continuous battle , if you can get it try the metal comb , it's teeth are v fine , much better than the plastic ones

Nowadays you need the parents' permission to check their children's hair, and guess which parents refuse???

Otherwise I agree with the advice given. When my children where little they frequently got re-infected at school from those kids whose parents wouldn't let anybody check. Then we started using shampoo with tea tree oil and it stopped. Maybe it was coincident, maybe not, I don't know.

I agree about the complaint, or maybe find out which school the girl came from and write to them. After all, work experience is supposed to show the girl how to behave in a work environment so she should learn about confidentiality and should be shown what distress her actions caused otherwise there is little point in doing the experience in the first place.

It is possible to have just one louse, my daughter had just one, I checked her hair after school, as I do most days, there was one very large, fully-grown adult. This must have climbed to her hair that day at school. There were no live eggs or babies. (Only the empty egg shells from when she had it in the Summer, which are a long way down the hair now, most have been picked out by good old Mum).

They are a pain aren't they. The worse thing for me was when my eldest daughter gave it to her 18 month old sister, her hair was really wispy and fine, poor little thing.

thanks again everyone and just a small update.

the work experience girl is from the same school as niece only a year higher, i spoke to school head of year and he then spoke to the work experience co-ordinater, who then spoke to the girl  this seemed to have a major reaction and she approached my niece in the dining hall and started shouting abuse across the hall about not sitting next to her because she is lousy and has fleas and she has proof.

i was horrified and heartbroken for her when she rang me in tears and said she wanted to come home - response from the teachers wil nil, they say these silly comments often occur and will no doubt run their course and a new scheme will start somewhere else.

do you think i am over reacting or should i try and quash it before serious bullying starts, i fear my niece may think it my fault because i alerted the staff and the girl was reprimanded, hence niece is now the target.

thank you all for your advice and tips

Well, the school are handling that well aren't they. No wonder the girl thinks its ok to gossip and spread malicious rumours. As to whether to take it further, I really don't know - I've still got the experience of secondary schools to come. Maybe a letter of complaint to the school about their handling of the situation but then would that make things even worse?

Sorry not to be of more help - I'm  on your behalf, I was bullied at school and it was horried - thought things were supposed to have improved, but obviously not.

my little angel has come back from school riddled with these blighters!
when he gets them i remove all the eggs one by one with my nails and stick the eggs to some sellotape then comb through with lots of conditioner and a nit comb.
problem is my hair is very long and dark and thick and there is no-one in my house with the patience to do this if i have them.
i know the pesticides that you can use kill the lice but not the eggs and thats what you need to remove or the problem keeps going on.
what can i use that will kill both eggs and lice?
    is that hedrin any use?

From my experience I think that all you can do is persevere and comb, comb, comb. Eventually you break their breeding cycle and it's over.

I wouldn't ever touch the chemical pesticides that you can buy in the chemist. I just wouldn't to put that on myself or my children.

  • Hi

I've not tried hedrin, but have used delacet with success, its herbal and does stink, but was very easily and no combing required.
