barjam wrote:i've seen these combs but what i want to know is are they easy to wipe clean if there is a head lice in the teeth, i've always wondered that because of the spirals
I've found them easy to clean the spirals are not too deep. Usually they just swill out in a bowl of water
Hope this helps :>)0 -
I had this problem a few years ago when my 2 DD were in primary school and I also looked after my niece, unfortunately my niece had friends who were never treated and she would get re-infested on a weekly basis. I tried everything and eventually gave up on lotions as they were useless and would just use conditioner. I heard about a thing called bug busting kit from another forum and got it from my doctor, it's a set of 3 combs and you use them every other day and I can honestly say that they worked wonders. My 2 were clean for over 18 months and my niece was evenutyally nit free after about 3 years of hell. I have still got the kit but fortunately I haven't had to use it for the last year but my youngest daughter is now in nursery so I will keep it just in case.0

i also have the bug busting kit, some doctors refuse to give it on precription , mine didnt:T0 -
Hi all,
Some of you are recommending the Nit Free comb - this sounds really similar to the Nitty Gritty comb I got on prescription, I googled the name and liked the look of the comb - it's got spirals and rubbery bands to help it from slipping out of your hands.
Is the Nit Free & Nitty Gritty the same comb?
And although some of you don't like the use of lotions this is my son's first time so I'm not worried about using a lotion - if there's repeated use then I've read the nits can get immune to lotion so then it's no use - but if you can get it on prescription then it'll save you money.
It's worth checking out with your Dr - and if your Dr refuses then I'd query the fact your child is under 16 and why should you have to pay for something that quite frankly is blinkin' expensive if your child is prone to nits?
As for the Nit Nurse I'll sign a petition if someone gets one going!

But why use lotion when you dont have to ? You still have to comb it through so why not just use the Bug Busting kit and get rid that way ?
Barjam, the doc should not be able to refuse to give it. It is a thing which is available on prescription, I know my Doc didnt realise it was available but soon as he checked there was no probs.
If anyone is refused it then check into it, because if the person is entitled to free prescriptions then they should be able to get it.
I only ever use the Bug Busting kit, id never use anything else again.0 -
Try the NitComb-M2, it has a double row of uniquely spaced teeth. I used it on my neice and it did the Job. They also have a natural Nitlotion which seems to be more friendly than the chemical based ones, which i dont like to use on such young children. :j0

My daughter has nits - I checked them last week, but she went to the hairdresser yesterday and they found the little blighters. We hedrin treated her last night and I have just checked her hair and found 2 . So it didn't work. Looks like we will have to condition comb after all.0

Combing is the only thing that works for us. It's just such a bloomin pain, I wish they'd bring back the nit nurse, cos although most families do, few don't bother treating and then it starts all over again.Only 5% of those who can give blood, actually do!
