We could have a similar poll on who turns off the fridge/freezer, hot water immersion heater (economy 7 night rate), alarm clock, porch/intruder lights, burglar alarm (when out, well you would not turn it on when you are in), moble phone, home phone any others? get the street lamps turned down a bit?

I don't think you could have picked a sillier list of items.

This was mentioned in another thread but I didn't want to hijack that one so here goes.

I have always left mine on.

How about others why do you leave it on/turn it off?

One poster mentioned saving on leccy.

Mine's left on all the time, but then I use VoIP and have an ATA connected to the router, so the router needs to be on all the time, even though the PC doesn't so I can make and receive phone calls. (On cable broadband).

If we go away for a couple of days or more, then it's all switched off.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I tend to leave mine on 24/7

If I go away I used to turn it off, but since I had mu shed broken into whilst away I'm looking into CCTV, so might be left on for remote monitoring...

Because they are designed to be left on 24/7 365 days of the year. Mine always has been.

I'm not disputing that espresso. I just find it annoying and see it as a growing trend in many appliances: some cheap printers also have no on/off switch (IMO

yikes yikes thats the same router as i use!! And i have it on on a rather fluffy carpet 24/7.

The thing is the router can be in use for upto 18-20 hours a day so it's not much to keep it on all the time.

I might look at putting the router on a piece of wood...

Wood burns, put it in a tin box if you are worried about spontaneous combustion. Remember it need ventilation though!

a sturdy piece of wood wouldn't get hot enough from a router to burn would it? A metal box would get quite hot though!

    Possibly!

    It would never burn though.
