do you leave your router on

Its turned off when we're not using it (so that's pretty much over night and when we're out). I've recently decided to minimise our leccy consumption and replaced most bulbs with energy saving ones, I now make sure I turn lights out when I leave the room and turn things off at the plug rather than leave them on standby. OK the router probably doesn't use up that much leccy but as they say...every little helps ;-) And as the plug for the router is right next to the TV one its easy to just turn them both off at the same time (our TV doesn't have a proper "off" switch, only standby).0

interesting thread - what about other computer electricals?
I must confess, i leave my speakers and printer on 24/7 though i do switch my screen off when i shut down.
Is there a way of working out exactly how much leaving things on/on standby costs us?
It could amount to a surprising amount (£30 a year?)Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
On all the time. I turn it off occasionally but thats just when I reset the modem to make sure there are no speed issues. I did a quick scan the other day via my laptop and found someone with a weak signal that had an open network. Still amazes me that people don't password it.0

Because they are designed to be left on 24/7 365 days of the year. Mine always has been. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Mine goes off when I stop ever since I heard of one router that caught fire (just happened to be the same make as mine). It gets pretty hot after a time take no chances it has an on/off switch.
No electrical item is left on unguarded in my house, its just too easy to switch them on again, isn it just being lazy.
