I unplug mine at night when i close down the pc. Weather its a minimul amount of electric or not...every little helps....plus i just feel its safer off when un moinitered with all the hyjacking and worms that get about. better to be safe than sorry.
i know all wireless routers should be set up so no one can log on to it from outside your home, but in this day of tech someone will come up with a way so i think its better to unplug it when not in use.
plus mines got flashing blue lights...lol...looks like an all night disco in the night (disco!...god that shows my age...lol)Happiness is not having what you want...but wanting what you have!!!0 -

So it does not bother you that someone might hack into your wireless router during the day, (when your using it) as long as they cant do it at night?I came into this world with nothing and I'm gonna leave with nothing.0 -

I must confess, i leave my speakers and printer on 24/7 though i do switch my screen off when i shut down.
Is there a way of working out exactly how much leaving things on/on standby costs us?
It could amount to a surprising amount (£30 a year?)
Nothing. Printer might get used 5 times a year (if that), scanner less. Laptops are turned off at night and any chargers unplugged. Same with phone chargers, telly and playstation. Only things left on overnight are sky box and DVD recorder (and fridge).0 -
what about all your other elecricals like printer/scanner/speaker/monitor? Do you all switch those off at night too?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

This was mentioned in another thread but I didn't want to hijack that one so here goes.
I have always left mine on.
How about others why do you leave it on/turn it off?
One poster mentioned saving on leccy.
I leave my turned own basically so it easily connects to the internet 24/7 and when I need a fast connection working at 8mb. It is encrypted with a WPA-PSK Code of my choice and I have renamed the router so that Hijackers and Hackers cannot find out the router model or try to hack in0 -
Assuming your router is rated at 12 watts (its probably less), it will consume around 105 KwH over 12 months, contributing about £12 to your bill. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

wow - never thought about it like that. Could save £5 a year by turning it off at night.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

of course it bothers me...but my router is set to flag it up and i know that mine is set up correctly....alot of people with wirseless routers havent a clue how easy it is for someone to hack in...I can see atleast two local ones to me that are vunerable...you took me out of context!Happiness is not having what you want...but wanting what you have!!!0 -
I switch off my computer, monitor and all peripherals (at mains) but I leave the router switched on. It serves more than just my PC so just for convenience I don't bother switching it off and on. I'm always wary of switching things off an on that don't even have a power button (seems like more likely to get damage from power spikes than through a designed in switch)."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
