ATT, you are very organised - like your lists and how you tick the items in the list one by one. Getting lots of things done - me too, need to get going

Hi US, thanks for stopping by

lol re my lists, it's usually a verrrrrry bad sign when I make lists, i'm not a natural list maker and on the rare occasions I do one it's because my brain is just spilling over with things to do. Unfortunately it always seems to be the work tasks that gets priority and I postpone my own stuff which is not good and I must improve in this area!

I decided today that rather than type a to-do list on here I would do a 'done list' and only write it down on here once it was done. Seems quite satisfying actually ;)

I've got a huge pile of paper next to me and that in itself is the to-do list. It's gradually coming down but has created a second pile which is now the filing pile and I'm not exaggerating to say that it's at least 10 inches high now :o

Good luck with your own jobs

    Regards

    What a gorgeous day :j

I'm not one to feel the heat but thank goodness for the air-con in the car this morning.

Got a few jobs done this morning then this afternoon will be going out with my mother for lunch. We're heading to the nearest coast so hopefully won't encounter too much traffic and be able to find somewhere relatively quiet to eat :o

    So, things achieved today

    1. All quilts and mattress toppers to the dry cleaners (£30 )
    2. All work related items now complete

    3. Two bank accounts closed

Now for a mooch on other diaries :D

ll I had a lovely lunch with my mother on the coast and amazingly the place was pretty quiet, it's such a popular place that I think reverse phycology may have been at play where everyone thought it would be so busy they didn't bother going :rotfl:

I'm just sitting now listening to the thunder and the rain is like stairods but the sun is also shining which is a bit bizarre but nice

Off to the cinema this afternoon with a small member of the family so we'll really enjoy that. By accident managed to get some cheaper 3D tickets too but still £19.90 for an adult, a senior and child; thank goodness we already have the 3D specs or that would have been another £3. Snacks all in hand too so we're good to go

The latest TCB payout is now in my account so I've transferred it to my savings account. I got £9.21 in relation to my new laptop I bought a few months ago

    Have a good day all

Well the film was absolutely fabulous. I don't go to the flix often but think I might abandon grown up films from now on and only go to see kids movies instead :rotfl:

We stopped by for a Mr McD's on the way back, that's pretty much an annual event for me so quite enjoyed it ;)

Well I've been spending some time with my spread sheets this week and as well as the monthly £500 OP's I've been making for years as minimum OP, I'm also well into the swing of also making £750 payments to savings accounts too in the form of

    • £250 to a wok share option (will treat this as savings until the term is up and I decided what to do for the best)
    • £250 to a monthly saver with a 'decent' rate that expires in December
    • £250 to a normal saver
Having looked back at the last few months I'm also making ad-hoc savings top-ups as well as the above so at the moment, on average, I'm saving £1000 pm on top of my OP's

I do have some expenses on the horizon but more of that in a post to follow I think :o

Would like to include my savings in my signature but at the moment I'm using the maximum amount of space allowed so may have to re-think my layout or add to individual posts

So I've been talking about changing my car for ages and never got round to it but managed to find some time this week

It seems I've let myself fall off the 'car ladder' whereby my car is worth next to nothing so I'll have to put quite a bit to it in order to get something I want. I had hoped to just add £3k of my own money after part-ex value but this is starting to look more like £5k or £5.5k

I know that's not a massive amount in the scheme of things it's just that I hate shelling that amount out. My how times have changed, there was a time I would not have blinked an eye at a figure much much higher than that :o

For a couple of days I had decided to not change the car and just run it into the ground almost but then the various squeaks and squeals have reminded me of cat converter problem and other such things that are costly so I think I need to bite the bullet. I do have a couple of cars in mind and have been to see two and have another two I'd like to look at but won't get that done for a couple of days yet so we'll see

    Regards

So... as well as the car expense i'm really feeling like I want to spend some money on the house :o

The decorating will happen around Oct and that's a given but I keep sighing when I look at carpets, curtains and suite. Since the day the carpet was laid I've never been 100% sure it's the one I actually chose :rotfl:I'm rapidly going off it and strange pigment marks keep appearing too which are definitely not marks due to spillages etc

My suite was incredibly expensive and I still really like the style so I'm toying with having it recovered and know of a reputable firm and I also know someone who has used them in the last few months. I've even spotted some material I like so I'm going to ring them to arrange a visit for a free/no obligation quote

Re the curtains, don't hate em, don't love em so the jurys out for them at the moment

The other thing that's lurking at the back of my mind is that I think I'd like to move house in the next couple of years so want to strike a balance of not spending to much of savings now as well as keeping my current place up to standard for both current enjoyment as well as maintaining value should I move

    Decisions, decisions, decisions :(

You are doing an amazing job with your overpayments and savings - well done!

It's always a difficult decision when it comes to spending significant amounts of money as we get so used to being focused on saving. That said, IMO it would be very difficult to OP/save and nothing else.

What about giving the rooms a lick of paint rather than replacing the sofa/curtains etc. It's amazing what a difference some paint can make.

We'd had our carpets down for 6 years - they were fitted by the house builder when we bought so weren't of particularly good quality. We only have carpets on the stairs and bedrooms and it cost us £1,500 (I think) to replace them and also to replace the underlay on the stairs. It is lovely but think about how long you are going to be in the house before making a decision. However, it could help make the house more saleable.......
